Remember the 2004 movie "Minority Report", where Tom Cruise chases after murderers before they commit the crime, based on some AI algorithm that predicts those crimes before they happen? Fox also had a TV mini series called Minority Report with a similar plot in 2015. Crazy, right? Well, in our world today, the "precogs" might be powerful algorithms and the "crimes" could be, well, anything. Think about targeted advertising that somehow pushes you towards certain products or news feeds that gobble up information to confirm your existing biases. Is this some Big Brother conspiracy? Not necessarily. But it's definitely worth exploring how technology is shaping our choices, sometimes even before we realize it. Check out these scenes from Minority Report, released 20 years ago, that are now part of our everyday lives: Driverless Cars: Now a reality. Imagine a future where accidents are a thing of the past because cars can predict and avoid hazards. Sounds amazing, right? But what if those same cars can also predict your driving habits and nudge you towards certain routes or behaviors? Personalized Ads: Again, a reality.
