Pavlov's Dog is a 1970s progressive rock/AOR band. Formed in 1972 in St. Louis, Pavlov's Dog is probably the best example of a band that you'll either hate or love, not only because of unique blend of jazz, hard rock, classical, and folk music style in the prog world but mainly because of its vocalist David Surkamp with his extremly high-pitched and unique voice. Despite performing alongside the biggest rock acts of the time (Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy, Journey, and many others), they failed to achieve a commercial breakthrough in their home country.
Their 3rd album was initially released only as a bootleg and only officially released many years later under the title Has Anyone Here Seen Siegfried? Tensions during the sessions for the album 1977 led to the band's temporary dissolution. In 1990, two founding members, Surkamp and Doug Rayburn, reunited as part of the Lost In America project, but the band's permanent revival didn't come until 2004, after the original lineup reunited in their hometown for an anniversary concert.

Mixed at The Record Plant - New York. The album features a line-up comprising David Surkamp, Steve Scorfina, Mike Safron, Rick Stockton, David Hamilton, Doug Rayburn and Siegfried Carver (born Richard Nadler). THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. At the Sound of the Bell is the 2nd studio album by American progressive rock/AOR band Pavlov's Dog, released in 1976. Since the previous year's album Pampered Menial, violinist Siegfried Carver and drummer Mike Safron had left the band, being replaced by guitarist Thomas Nickeson and drummer Bill Bruford. Bruford, already famous as a member of Yes, King Crimson and Genesis, joined as a session musician. Several other musicians performed as guests, most notably Grammy Awarded Michael Brecker, Andy Mackay of Roxy Music fame, and guitarist Elliott Randall. The album's cover depicts model Michael Mantel dressed as the Hunchback of Notre-Dame. According to lead singer David Surkamp, "the band was falling apart" during the album's recording, as the members "were all wanting to be songwriters but none of them could write" except for himself and Doug Rayburn. Pavlov's Dog ) Has Anyone Here Seen Sigfried? (The Lost Third Pavlov's Dog Album) 2007 (Reissue 2024)
THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. Has Anyone Here Seen Sigfried? is the 4th studio album by American progressive rock/AOR band Pavlov's Dog, released in 2007. The album was meant to be the band's 3rd studio release, succeeding At the Sound of the Bell. However, according to lead singer David Surkamp, "the band was falling apart" at the time, the recording sessions were troubled, and Columbia Records "refused to release" the album. The band broke up in 1977, and the recordings were supposed to remain unreleased. Yet, the band's guitarist Steve Scorfina had a tape of the mix from which he created 100 unofficial vinyl copies and released them in 1977 as The St. Louis Hounds. During the next 30 years the album was reissued several times with various titles (most commonly as Third), always as a bootleg. With the original master tapes lost, Rockville Music enhanced the sound of the bootlegged releases the best they could, added 10 bonus tracks and released the album legally for the 1st time in 2007. The front cover depicts the band's original violinist Sigfried Carver, who left them shortly after Pampered Menial's release and is the person in question on the album's title. In 2013 the long-lost master tapes were rediscovered along with the original artwork. Then in 2014 the album was properly remastered and reissued with different bonus tracks and what was intended to be the original album cover, a drawing of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Remastered and alternated reissue LP is a part of Pavlov's Dog Essential Recordings 1974 - 2018 boxset issued in 2024. Pavlov's Dog ) Prodigal Dreamer) 2018 (Reissue 2024)
THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. Prodigal Dreamer is the 7th studio album by American progressive rock/AOR band Pavlov's Dog, released in 2018. According to the band's long-standing leader David Surkamp most of the album's songs were newly composed at the time, but "Paris" existed since 1977 and "Thrill of it All" was written "maybe a couple of years later". Both songs are credited to Surkamp and former Pavlov's Dog member Douglas Rayburn, who passed away in 2012. Nathan Jatcko, then member of the band since 2015, recorded some keyboard parts on an electric piano during the album's sessions, with the intention to re-record them on a grand piano in their final form. However, Jatcko committed suicide on January 17, 2018 and was replaced by Mark Maher who completed the recordings. Prodigal Dreamer is dedicated to Jatcko's memory. The album's artwork consists of various black and white snippets from Edwin Landseer's paintings A Jack in Office and Low Life. Pavlov's Dog also based the cover of their debut album Pampered Menial on Low Life. Both paintings represent the same overweight dog, a mainstay of the band's image through the years.
