The home life of a Jewish family, purportedly located at 1038 East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx, was the subject of the domestic comedy. Berg not only wrote the screenplays and directed each episode, but she also played Molly Goldberg, a loving, overbearing, and somewhat stereotypical Jewish matriarch. The sitcom started out as a depiction of Jewish tenement life, but it gradually evoked growing pains like relocating to a more suburban area and battling Jewish assimilation while maintaining their roots.
