The "Risāla of Abī Zayd al-Qayrawānī" (الرسالة لابن أبي زيد القيرواني) — also known simply as “al-Risāla” — is a foundational work in Maliki Islamic jurisprudence and doctrine, authored by: Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Zayd al-Qayrawānī (310–386 AH / 922–996 CE) A major Maliki jurist and theologian from Kairouan (modern-day Tunisia), often called "the little Mālik" (مالك الصغير) because of his mastery of Mālikī jurisprudence. "Al-Risala (الرسالة)" is a foundational manual that summarizes Maliki jurisprudence (fiqh) along with Islamic theology (aqidah). It was written primarily to teach young students the essentials of their religion. It was a prominent scholar of the Maliki school of Islamic jurisprudence from Kairouan, in present-day Tunisia. He is often referred to as the “Little Malik” due to his deep understanding of Imam Malik’s teachings.
