Qumran, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the New Covenant

This is CHAPTER 3 of 20 chapters. This chapter focuses on proper biblical authority based on written Torah scripture. Does it belong to the Rabbinic/Talmudic system of Judaism, OR does it belong to the chosen line of priests referred to by the term Tzadok or the Tzadokim (Zadokites) of the Qumran Community? This is where Paul was heading in his "Damascus Road" experience (Acts 9). He was a "hired gun" for the Judean priests and elders so to speak, to round up and arrest anyone associated with the Qumran Community of legitimate priests and their teaching authority.

There was an intense biblical controversy during the Second Temple period regarding the authority of second-temple period Judaism and who had the authority to proclaim the correct biblical calendar of the national festivals. It was a sharp Zadokite priesthood rejection of the second temple period Scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees. The Zadokite priesthood of the Qumran believed they had the biblical authority to set the dates for all national biblical festivals of Israel and Judah.
