Boulder Police Patrol Officer Rick French stood outside the doorway of 755 Fifteenth Street. It was 5:56am. A woman in her late thirties opened the door, dressed in a red sweater and black slacks. She did not bother introducing herself to the patrolman; she probably didn’t need to. Once she began to explain that her six year old daughter JonBenét Ramsey was missing, Officer French would have known precisely who he was talking to. What he didn't know was that he was now the first responding officer to what would become one of the most famous and controversial homicide investigations of all time. FBI Agent Ron Walker arrived at the Police Department headquarters at 1805 33rd St in downtown Boulder at approximately 11:00am on December 26th, 1996. A behavioral analyst working out of the Denver Field office, Walker was given the nod around 8:15 that morning after Boulder PD Sergeant Bob Whitson called in to inform the FBI of a kidnapping on a quiet street in one of the city’s better neighborhoods. The first forty-eight hours would be crucial, and they were already on hour 10. After waiting another 45 minutes at the station, Walker received a briefing from Sgt. Like his partner Detective Steve Thomas, Gosage came to Boulder from Wheat Ridge, spent some time on the SWAT team, and had since been assigned to crimes against persons. On January 1st 1997, Boulder Police detectives Steve Thomas, Ron Gosage, Tom Trujllo, Jane Harmer, and their sergeant Larry Mason were on their way to Atlanta. It had been seven days since JonBenet Ramsey was found deceased in the basement of a sprawling, labyrinthian home in one of the city’s nicer neighborhoods, and the police had very little to go on even after a full week of ceaseless investigation. Though they were firing on all cylinders, interviewing neighbors, friends, employees, and even potential suspects, one very big question loomed over the whole case: who were John and Patsy Ramsey, and what did they actually know about the night in question? Despite multiple attempts to secure an interview with the grieving parents, something always came up to prevent that step from being taken. First the Ramseys were too shaken up, then Patsy was too medicated, and not long after that they left town to bury JonBenet in the same plot as her older sister.
