Peter Sellers was an English film actor and comedian. He was both a superb character actor, but also a masterful comic actor, best known for his portrayal of Chief Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther series of films and his membership of the Goons, along with Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe. He had a Near Death experience in 1964 . His heart stopped for one and a half minutes and stopped seven more times before the doctor was able to bring him back. The repeated act of dying became for Sellers a pivotal point in his life. But it did not begin his spiritual interests, it simply intensified them. Although many have attributed Peter’s intense interest in the occult to his NDE, he needed no NDE to be convinced of the existence of ‘spirits’. Sellers regularly consulted mediums and astrologers. Film producers even submitted their ideas and scripts to Peter’s ‘spiritual advisors’. Peter also immersed himself in Eastern philosophy. At the time he said ‘Yoga has given me a tranquillity I wouldn’t have thought possible’. And via yoga and spiritual practises he managed to partly, though not entirely, water down the consequences of his childhood. But the film 'I’m all Right Jack' [1959] directed by John Boulting was a milestone for him as a character actor playing a serious role, as opposed to a comic role. For his role as Fred Kite he won a British Academy Film Award for Best British Actor. Black Sabbath were an English heavy metal rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1968, consisting of "Tony" Iommi, ‘Geezer’ Butler, "Ozzy" Osbourne and Bill Ward. The band had multiple line-up changes following Osbourne's departure in 1979, but this video is about the original lineup. Black Sabbath have sold over 70 million records worldwide. Commentators have said: "They were ... a ground breaking band...you can put on the first Black Sabbath album and it still sounds as fresh today as it did 30-odd years ago" and "The heaviest, scariest, coolest riffs and the apocalyptic Ozzy wail are without peer. You can hear the despair and anguish in every kick-ass, evil groove". But they courted the Dark side and paid a terrible price. The Ozzy wail was a cry for help. This video is a small extract from a BBC Radio 4 programme recorded on Thursday 21 March 2013 at 7.15. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b01r9sw2 It contains an interview with Nigel Kennedy in which he not only describes what he's doing now, but also what inspiration as a musician does to you, he even describes an out of body experience experienced via the extreme emotion generated by the set, setting and music itself. In many experiences generated by extreme emotion, the emotion generating the experience is negative. But it is also possible to provoke a spiritual experience via intense and overwhelming happiness and euphoria. The spiritual experience usually comes at the time the happiness was felt – at the time the event that caused all this happiness occurred. Pete Townshend is an English rock musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, author and the guitarist for the rock group The Who. Townshend is and was the primary songwriter for The Who, having written well over 100 songs for the band's 12 studio albums. Although known primarily as a guitarist, he also plays keyboards, banjo, accordion, harmonica, ukulele, mandolin, violin, synthesiser, bass guitar and drums. He is self-taught on all of these instruments. Townshend was one of the first major rock stars to turn against the use of drugs and wrote about it in 1970. He became a very devoted follower of Meher Baba, and it was Meher Baba’s influence that helped him turn away from drugs. His 2012 autobiography is called Who I Am. Jacques Lusseyran became totally blind in a school accident at the age of 7, but spiritually he taught himself "blindsight", the ability to "see" without his eyes. At the start of the war, in 1941, at the age of 17, Lusseyran formed a Resistance group. But in 1943, Lusseyran was arrested by the Gestapo, and deported to Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He wrote about his life, including his experience during the war, in his autobiography And There Was Light. Michael Crichton was an American author and filmmaker. Although he received an M.D. from Harvard Medical School , he did not practice medicine, choosing to focus on his writing instead. He eventually wrote 26 novels. Crichton was also involved in the film and television industry and several of his novels were adapted into films, most notably Jurassic Park. What is perhaps less well known, is that he was very interested in the spiritual, and practised meditation throughout much of his life. Aldous Leonard Huxley (26 July 1894 – 22 November 1963) was an English writer, best known for his novels, essays, short stories, poetry, travel writing, film stories and scripts. Huxley was interested in ‘parapsychology’ and ‘philosophical mysticism’ and became involved in the experiments being undertaken at the time, on these subjects.William Blake once wrote: "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite".
