Feast of Trumpets

The themes of 10 years ago are being played once again as our world faces escalating conflict and mayhem. But the message of hope envisioned in the Feast of Trumpets is one that will encourage all those who believe in the testimony of the scripturres. In 2014, Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the UN, was concerned that, "This year the horizon of hope is darkened..." We are entering a time of judgment and momentous world events. But,for the people celebrating Yom Teruah, the Feast of Trumpets, Rosh Hashana, our Lord God gives us hope. How does this feast remind us of the hope, the salvation, and the deliverance that our merciful God offers to those who walk humbly in covenant with Him. Jeff Patton encourages us to have hope in Jesus Christ, the I AM, who will return to the earth as King of King and Lord of Lords.

Days of Awe have historically been considered as a time of judgment, the time between the Feast of Trumpets, Yom Teruah, and the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur. During this time God has a message for the physical people, the descendants of Israel, a message of repentance and reconciliation. For the Christian the message gains a deeper significance as we move beyond repentance to embrace the goal of becoming the telleion man (or woman). When the seventh trumpet sounds it will usher in the return of Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God. This vision of the future seems fantastical. And yet it has been prophesied for millennia. Daniel wrote of this cataclysmic change in world governance when he revealed the meaning of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. The dream was an allegory of a great statue representing the great world powers in succession, beginning with the Babylonian King as the head of gold. As history has confirmed, the silver kingdom of Medo-Persia, and the bronze kingdom of Greece, were followed by successive resurrections of the great Roman system. And yet, ultimately all of these great civilizations will be destroyed, so that not a trace of them will be found. But what will replace these corrupt oppressive systems of governance?

What is the solution to the serious problems inherent in human governments? The Feast of Trumpets, this day of remembrance provides the answers. On so many levels the corruption of our present systems is being called out by those at the tops of their fields of endeavour.
