Remember when you were a kid and you tried to plant an apple seed but everyone told you it wouldn’t grow? They were wrong! It can grow if you do it right. You won’t get an identical fruit however but that’s okay. Every variety of fruit you enjoy was once a seed planted from a different variety. Someone liked that fruit enough to take cuttings of it and graft it onto other trees. What if your new variety sucks? Graft one of the aforementioned good ones onto your tree and forget it your variety ever existed. You don’t need to buy seed potatoes or slips to plant in your garden. Just go to the produce section of your grocery store, buy some sweet potatoes and you’re ready to grow your own slips. No toothpicks or stinky water necessary. Just plop your sweet potato in some potting mix and harvest (almost) endless slips from it. When the slips are 6 in long cut them off the sweet potato and plant them in the garden. Experimenting with a faster way to compost. The plan is to add layers of greens (Nitrogen) and browns (carbon) to my compost then mix it daily to get compost quick. You don’t need to buy lots of ivy. One of each variety is all you need. You don't even have to own the mother plant. You just need permission to take a piece of it. Growing ivy might not help with the coming food shortages (or it might… that's a topic for another time) but the skills you learn while growing anything will transfer over to growing food.
