Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 1/38 - intro (some nudity), menus, game over screen
BlaqthourneThis video is simply to show the intro movie and go through the II Button and battle menus. You will need to turn on captions to get translations. -- Translations are machine translations. I used the Bing and Google translators as well as https://nihongodera.com/tools/kana-converter for word by word translations. I also used http://www.moemoe.gr.jp/~yourtoy/last/index.html It has most, or possibly all, of the text (all in Japanese) from the PC88 version. I'd say at least 90% of the two versions' event scripts are identical -- I did not compare the text on the slates. Last Armageddon was originally released on Japanese PCs in 1988, being ported to PC Engine in 1990 on CD. It was also ported to Famicom a couple months later. It never got a release outside of Japan. Played on a PC Engine Duo-R using composite out, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.78 views -
Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 2/38 - Exploring and reading slates
BlaqthourneI delete the save file and restart to show that choosing to continue when there is no saved game (it does not have multiple save files), it will start a new game. The beginning of the game is mostly going around and reading the slates. In this version, only the 12 red slates have to be read (from what I've read, other versions require reading all 108 slates). All battles will be shown throughout the entire playthrough. -- Translations are machine translations. Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 3/38 - Exploring and 1st attempt at a boss
BlaqthourneIt's more exploring and reading slates, along with leveling up the day and night parties. I finish with a failed attempt at trying to defeat one of the four alien base bosses (at 58:40). -- Translations are machine translations. Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 4/38 - ID Card Part A, 1st monster evolution, CS Room
BlaqthourneDefeating our first boss at a different alien base, we get the ID Card Part A. The southern part of the map has enemies that are too tough for us. Entering the first dungeon, the Cold Sleep Room on the icy NW island, we're right on the edge of being able to easily survive inside. Gargoyle becomes the first party member to reach overall level 5 and evolve. Since the Cold Sleep Room is the best source of jin right now, we head back in. I'm not concerned about the MAD status ability, as the only thing it does is cause a physical attack to either not attack or attack a random enemy. -- Translations are machine translations. Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 5/38 - ID Card Part B, Cold Sleep Room
BlaqthourneLeaving the Cold Sleep Room, we defeat the 2nd of 4 alien base bosses, picking up ID Card Part B. Cyclops evolves. Taking a shot at the alien base we hadn't visited, we can't survive against the boss's petrify attack. So, we head back to the Cold Sleep Room. Thanks to Cyclops learning Thunder Arrow, the night party can survive pretty easily. Not so much with the day party -- I could have made things much easier if I would have remembered Harpy has the Return to the Demon World special ability. Skeleton becomes the first day party member to evolve, as we could have immediately warped out of the CS Room using it once it was obvious she couldn't stay alive for very long. Regardless, after making it back to the Fang Gate to resurrect her and heal the party, I end the play session by heading back there to try to build up some jin for the day party. -- Translations are machine translations. Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 6/38 - Exploring the Cold Sleep Room
BlaqthourneAfter a brief stint outside the CS Room to level up Harpy for more HP, we head back in. Orc and G. Snake evolve shortly after entering. After a while, Harpy joins the rest of the party with her first evolution. Overall level 9 will be the next time they evolve. The day party has finally built up enough jin to start making equipment -- there's not much point in creating less than the best equipment, as the natural defense power built up by defending and taking damage is good enough to survive until you have enough jin to make the best. G. Snake and Harpy cannot equip anything. The cutscene at 44:10 requires the night party to view the entire scene. -- Translations are machine translations (turn on captions for translations). Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 7/38 - Still in the Cold Sleep Room
BlaqthourneI explore the rest of the Cold Sleep Room, temporarily picking up a CD at the end of the play session -- my notes were wrong as to which party needs to be active to get the disc. -- Translations are machine translations (turn on captions for translations). Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 8/38 - CS Room full cutscene, ID Card Part C
BlaqthourneWrapping up the Cold Sleep Room for now, since the night party is able to view the entire cutscene in the room with the mummies (at 7:55), we stop by. On the way out of the CS Room, Slime evolves, leaving only Goblin to evolve in the night party. Trying the alien base that we couldn't handle earlier, we're able to withstand the alien boss's paralyze attack to get ID Card Part C. After that, it's back to reading slates. In doing so, Goblin joins the party by evolving. Unfortunately, I had a random encounter at the same time as when it would show the slate text, causing the text scene not to play, making me reset the game. From 50:00 on, I have to revisit the slates since my last save. I finish the session by heading back into the CS Room to build up more jin to create equipment. -- Translations are machine translations (turn on captions for translations). Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 9/38 - CS Room, ID Card Part D
BlaqthourneI was going to get the CD Disc, but couldn't make it to the CD Room before 10:00. Goblin gets to keep his evolution, completing the day party's first evolutions. After viewing the CD cutscene with a party that can't get the disc, we leave the CS Room. After visiting another slate, we get the final ID Card Part (D) and combine the four parts to make the ID Card. Harpy becomes the first to reach overall level 9 and its 2nd evolution. -- Translations are machine translations (turn on captions for translations). Last Armageddon (PCE - 1990) playthrough, part 10/38 - Reading slates on the eastern continent
BlaqthourneThe entire play session is traveling around the eastern continent, reading slates. I start focusing on building up the parties' magic power so they can start learning new spells. G. Snake evolves for the 2nd time after the first battle. Orc evolves for the 2nd time, leaving Skeleton as the last of the day party to evolve its 2nd time. Changing to the night party, Cyclops is the first to have its 2nd evolution, with Gargoyle joining later. Unfortunately, I got into another random encounter at the same time a slate scene would have played, causing another reset. -- Translations are machine translations (turn on captions for translations).
