Jesus came to redeem and rescue sinners from the judgment we were already due: (John 3:16-18) Jesus taught that souls in hell are conscious and that those in the place of suffering are aware of their suffering and their guilt before God. But also that those who died in faith are in comfort of Abraham’s bosom. (Luke 16:19-30) Jesus taught that the suffering is real, conscious and eternal (Matthew 23:33; 25:41; Mark 9:43) Jesus portrayed the doom of the lost with vivid imagery of terrifying fire and darkness (Matthew 5:22; 8:8–12) Jesus described the suffering of judgment as the only alternative to eternal fellowship with God is an eternity in hell (Matthew 22:1–14; Luke 14:15–24). All sin is rebellion against the light and revelation of God, and hell is the just punishment for that rebellion (Matthew 5:22). Jesus said the devil and his minions are the original rebels against God, and they will suffer eternally in that place which was specially prepared for them (Matthew 25:41) The Bible reveals to us that this destination is a place of eternal restlessness and regret with no exit. (Mark 9:48, Matthew 13:42, Matthew 22:13, 24:51, Luke 13:28, Mark 9:48, Matthew 25:46, Luke 16:19–31). The Great News is that the Father sent Jesus, His only begotten son, to save us (John 3:16-18). We have the opportunity to be accepted by Him (Acts 16:31, Ephesians 1:6), redeemed and taken to Heaven (John 14:1-2). He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6).
