Vocalist Chrystal James founded ANOXIA in 2004. The band was a force in the Baltimore local music scene for ten years before an eight-year hiatus. Chrystal refers to that hiatus as "The Quiet", which has led to the title of the band's upcoming album, Relinquish The Quiet. ANOXIA has made a return now with Chrystal and her “Guardians” – “Relic” (guitars), “DeKay” (bass), “Dust” (guitars), and another Guardian to be named soon. Chrystal calls them her Guardians instead of a band – it is ANOXIA’s gimmick and her way of continuing to create her music without anyone else having control or holding her back. They have a sound that is unique and one they can call their own. I simply call it ‘kick ass’! You name it they have it; heavy guitar riffs that blend with a jackhammer hitting rhythm section that is complimented by the outstanding vocal works of one Corey James. Put those things together, shake it up and pour it out and you have a euphonious ball of combustible bliss that is an absolute pleasure to your earholes! On hiatus since 2014, the band got back together in 2019. Although the entire lineup did not return, several members did, including James. CARBONSTONE had a decent run prior to shutting things down; and with what I’ve heard, I’m betting that success will be matched, if not surpassed. The song was written by frontman Nick Van Eede, produced by Terry Brown, John Jansen and the band, and mixed at Utopia Studios in London by Tim Palmer. The power ballad is the band's biggest hit, peaking at number one in the United States, Canada, Norway, and Finland, and reaching the top five in Germany, Ireland, the UK, South Africa, Sweden, and Switzerland. The words "I just died in your arms tonight" allegedly came to Van Eede while he was having sex with his girlfriend, the French phrase la petite mort, or "the little death", being a metaphor for orgasm. After writing down his version of the phrase, he later used it as the opening line to the song as well as using it as the chorus.
