Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay

Updated 2 months ago
Video series dedicated to Super Mario Bros. 3. In this playlist, all levels will be completed. I also vow not to take any damage and to collect all coins and 1-ups. At least, all the ones I encounter! I don't know the game inside out, and it contains secrets. So I may miss some, if I don't see them. However, I explore each level and backtrack whenever necessary to avoid it.
All levels in each video were played in one sitting and in real time. No exterior help, such as a turbo button, was used. Generally speaking, each video covers up to the next savepoint, meaning a fortress or a castle.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 1/25)
RRinstorDespite the video containing five levels, playing them all in a row in this fashion (collecting everything and not taking damage) was not hard. Challenging, but not hard. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY12 views 1 comment -
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 2/25)
RRinstorBehind the scenes, I tried defeating the castle boss by shooting fireballs at him. I thought it would be safer, just like it's safer to shoot the boss of a fortress than it is to jump on him. But the surface was inadequate and it apparently requires quite a few fireball hits to take the castle boss down. I took damage before I could beat him, so I restarted the whole thing and the result is what you see. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY6 views 1 comment -
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 3/25)
RRinstorIf you want to spawn the blue mushroom house like I did, make sure to play the second level the way I did: collect everything. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY8 views 1 comment -
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 4/25)
RRinstorAlthough this game is - generally speaking - not too hard, this was a challenging portion of it to record in these conditions. Not missing any coin during the limited time given by the P switches was a little bit stressful and I had to figure out in advance the path I would take. I'm not ashamed to have used a star on the fire bros, considering how much I must play before facing them. I'm not willing to risk taking damage on them to merely save a star. In the pyramid level, I learnt the hard way that you can not slide down the first long slope from too early on without taking damage. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 5/25)
RRinstorThe first level was mostly a formality. The second level starts getting interesting. You have to be mindful of flying fish because when they jump up to you, you may take damage; so play around that like I did. The third level was the most challenging. In this one, it is a very good idea to memorize where the flying fish spawn and kill as many of them as possible from a safe distance. It's also good to be patient regarding the big patrolling fish and the tides. Finally, to collect everything, I needed to be fast to get as many coins as possible after hitting the second 'P' button while being careful not to destroy the boxes above in the last jump. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 6/25)
RRinstorLevel 4 was fun and fairly easy. Level 5 was particularly slow because I wanted to rigorously explore it. Level 6 was the real check. First, I had to explore it behind the scene and note where the coins, the 1-up mushroom and the P-switch were. Then, I had to figure out the best path to collect everything without missing any. And lastly, I had to execute it properly and without taking damage. Note that the leaf power-up is really worth using! Level 7 was fine as long as I made sure to start with the fire flower and keep it. It makes clearing the way so much safer! The fortress was scary and there's no easy way to do it, pick your poison. Either I made the platforming section easy by consuming one of my frog power-ups before entering the fortress, resulting in a risky boss fight because the frog power-up makes for awkward movements outside of water, or I made the boss fight easy by grabbing a fire flower but then it's risky to navigate between the ghosts in the underwater section. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 7/25)
RRinstorUsing a leaf power-up to start level 8 makes it much easier to collect all the coins in it. I highly recommend it. That's also the way to spawn the blue mushroom house. Level 9 has multiple crossroads. I'm pleased with this path that I figured out, it's easy and has little to no backtracking. It's fairly challenging to defeat the castle boss by jumping on her repeatedly. Each time you do, she creates another bouncing ring in the room. So, instead of doing that, I used a fire flower power-up before entering the castle and I beat her by using exclusively fireballs. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY8 views -
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 8/25)
RRinstorI was hesitant to use one of my fire flower power-ups to safely defeat the big hammer bros, we'll see if that makes later parts of the game harder for me. Maybe I won't have as many fire flowers as I'd like. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY7 views -
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 9/25)
RRinstorThis aquatic level is surprisingly empty outside of the bonus area. The frog power-up is also necessary to access said area. The tanuki power-up you see me get in level 5 works just like the leaf power-up with an added bonus: Mario is able to momentarily change into a stone statue. You must be able to fly to access every area in the fortress level, that's why I didn't grab the fire flower. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY3 views -
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Superplay (Part 10/25)
RRinstorI didn't bother reclearing the bonus area of level 4 since that's already been shown in the previous part. It's challenging to collect everything in level 6 without taking damage. You can't take your time! The end part of the castle is hard if you're on the path below. That's why I made sure to stay on the upper path. Playlist: https://rumble.com/playlists/KXYWCshZtOY2 views
