Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 1/14 - New York & Detroit
BlaqthourneWinning the three races in New York, then Detroit, as well as buying a few upgrades for my Mini Cooper. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.60 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 2/14 - Miami & Yellowstone
BlaqthourneI move up to the International C license in Miami, which increases the price of Nitro as well as adding a lap to the races. I shouldn't have upgraded as much as I did on the Mini, as in Yellowstone, I'm unable to win the higher priced race, Great Divide. Instead, I should have gone for replacing the Mini with the Vector. Going my route does show the feature of getting tips if you don't finish in the money, i.e. finishing below 3rd. After trying, and failing, to win Great Divide with the 5MPH top speed boost from the FRP chassis, I grind for money by repeatedly winning Deep Forest (25:40 - 37:55) to afford the $30,000 Vector W2 (I'd never even heard of this car before playing this game). I go from being unable to finish in the money with the Mini to winning with the Vector without needing to use any Nitro. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 3/14 - Dallas & Denver
BlaqthourneI immediately go for the International B license in Dallas. After knocking out the other two races, I make a short stop at the casino in Las Vegas just to show what it's like. After one unsuccessful attempt at Milion [sic] $ Night, I head to Denver. Even though the entry fees are higher in Denver, the races seem to be easier to win. The final race in Denver, Mountain Road, does give me a little trouble. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.56 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 4/14 - Las Vegas & San Francisco
BlaqthourneBack in Las Vegas, I have one atrocious try at Gambler Run while knocking out the three races. Moving on to San Francisco, I attain the International A license, passing 1st place right before the finish line. Being unable to win the last race in SF, Bay Circuit, with a fully upgraded Vector, I run Alcatraz repeatedly (29:40 - 41:40) in order to buy a Ferrari F40. Dropping $200,000 on the Ferrari, I'm able to win Bay Circuit with ease. I finish by buying one of the cheapest parts to show the F40 in the shop. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.29 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 5/14 - Los Angeles & Hawaii
BlaqthourneThe final race in Los Angeles, Dragon Cup, was my first major obstacle when I first played this game around when it was released. I don't believe I was able to win Dragon Cup the couple times I rented it prior to buying it. In Hawaii, it takes me two attempts at Final Road to attain the Super A license. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.31 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 6/14 - Winning $1,000,000 at slots
BlaqthourneTaking a break from racing, I head to the casino in Las Vegas to win a million bucks at the slots so I can fully upgrade my Formula One car, since I'm going to go for winning every race. From the several times I've gone this route, this is pretty standard for the amount of time it'll take to hit all 7's. It's definitely faster than repeatedly running races to earn the money. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.40 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 7/14 - Brazil, San Marino, Monaco, Mexico
BlaqthourneNow flush with cash after my slot machine winnings, I fully upgrade my F1 car. The first couple races can be won with what I could have upgraded prior to going to Vegas, but they quickly become unwinnable or not possible to even place in the money without being fully upgraded, meaning upgrading the car will require going back to the non F1 races to build up funds, if you didn't enter the F1 part of the game with probably around $1M. By the 3rd or 4th race, I don't think it's possible to attain the pole position. I run a practice lap at Brazil simply to show the feature and that you don't have to replenish any Nitro used. The first four races give me little trouble, winning them all on my first attempt. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 8/14 - USA, Canada, France, Great Britain
BlaqthourneUSA is, I think, the first time where the other cars can clearly be seen driving through each other, at the 2:15 mark. France is the first race to start giving me issues, as I need to abort the run once (pressing Select quits the race without counting as running it, although you do lose the Nitro you used and a set of tires in the non-F1 races). I also have one aborted run at Great Britain. The difficulty really ramps up after this. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.32 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 9/14 - West Germany, Hungary
BlaqthourneYou know it's an old game when you're in West Germany. Since I don't want to show a bunch of aborted attempts, I've cut down on the number of circuits per video. It starts getting really bad in Hungary in this respect. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989. Played on a front loading NES, running it through a RetroTINK 5X-Pro to an Elgato HD60 X capture card. Recorded in OBS Studio.39 views -
Formula One: Built to Win (NES - 1990) playthrough, part 10/14 - Belgium, Italy
BlaqthourneAt this point, I had wrapped up the title. But since I'm going for winning every race, a LOT of restarts aren't shown before finally being able to win Belgium. The final four races of the F1 season will each be in separate videos. This is one of my favorite racing/driving games. It was actually the first game I bought for my NES after buying the console from a cousin in 1989.
