223 Remington Load Workup
Green Valley Reloading223 Remington Load Workup on an LWRC AR-15 with a 1:7 Twist barrel. There are challenges with high twist rates in making things group well with lighter bullets. It turns out, there problems with heavier bullets too. You get to see me decode what's going on with the die setting and work through the problem of not being able to seat deep enough with this die. Spoiler alert! We work through it and finally get it working. I'm using a 1950s Pacific Power "C" press with an old, vintage CH 223 taper crimp die set. This is the first time using these dies I got for $10 at a gun show in Phoenix December 2025. "10-6 Reload OC" is out of Anaheim, California (City of Orange). They have a lot of vintage reloading equipment but they also sell new equipment too. My kind of place to hang out. This is a good example of what you can do with old, used dies. I've never had a set of dies that don't do what they need to do. But sometimes you have to repair them as I've done here. Some parts are interchangeable. There's more options than you think when it comes to making old, broken equipment work. In this 223 load workup series, I do all the loading with old, used equipment I picked up for cheap. The ammo we're making is precise and every bit as good as anything out there. The "nut behind the bolt" is what matters with good ammunition.29 views
