"Sometimes It's Best to Leave Well Enough Alone" -Joseph Seed

The remote community of Hope County, Montana, has been taken over by the Project at Eden's Gate, a radical religious cult led by Joseph Seed and his siblings. Following the uploading of several videos exposing Eden's Gate by three bloggers trying to save Hope County, the U.S. Marshal Service issues an arrest warrant for Joseph Seed. Marshal Cameron Burke, along with Sheriff Earl Whitehorse, Deputy Staci Pratt, Deputy Joey Hudson, and a junior deputy arrive in the county to arrest Joseph.

Awakening after their disastrous escape attempt from Eden's Gate, the Deputy finds themselves restrained inside an underground bunker, where the owner, Dutch laments on whether or not to turn over his captive to the cult. He ultimately decides to put faith in their ability to overcome Joseph Seed's twisted Project and liberate Hope County and sets them free.

Following their successful liberation of Dutch's Island from Eden's Gate, Dutch made the recommendation that the Deputy lend aid to another pocket of the Resistance residing in the town of Fall's End. The radio, however, confirmed that the picturesque township had been overrun by Peggies. The strategic value of the town as the center of Holland Valley makes it invaluable as the Resistance's base of operations, so the Deputy heads out there.

With the amount of chaos and frustration the Deputy is causing John by interfering with his operations in Holland Valley, his rage reaches a breaking point as he sends a party to capture them, succeeding as they are rendered unconscious by a dose of the cult's patented Bliss formula.

Rook arrives at the Silver Lake Trailer Park and find a group of Resistance members held hostage, Merle Briggs among them. Once he clears out the threat, talk to Merle, who wants to fight back against Eden's Gate and for that, he needs his truck, "The Death Wish", which the cult stole and locked up at their outpost at US Auto. Merle asks you to go ahead and clear it out, with the promise of reinforcements.

A man named Nick Rye calling for help, saying the Eden's Gate has started attacking his family's airfield to steal his plane. A dangerous situation, to say the least.

Even after witnessing John's maniacal influence over Holland Valley first-hand, the Deputy continued to defy him and wreak more havoc on his installation in the region, which once more stressed the man to his limit as he sends the second party out to capture them, who once again succeed in dosing the Deputy into unconsciousness.

After escaping from John's clutches, Mary May comes over the radio and informs the Deputy about the cult deploying a monster of a vehicle on the roads, the Revelator, in order to combat the Resistance's growth.

Deputy continues to reign terror down upon the cult's operations in Holland Valley, until John reached the breaking point. He calls them over the radio and informs them he has captured the Resistance in Fall's End and invites them to come and atone for the sins they've committed, threatening whole-scale retaliation if refused.
