Jack The Giant Killer (Movie) 1962
Classic ClipsJack the Giant Killer is a 1962 American heroic fantasy adventure film starring Kerwin Mathews in a fairy tale story about a young man who defends a princess against a sorcerer's giants and demons. Desiring control of the kingdom, an evil wizard, Pendragon (Torin Thatcher), devises a cunning machination to usurp the throne. By abducting Princess Elaine (Judi Meredith) and forcing her to marry him, Pendragon will coerce the king (Dayton Lummis) into abdicating his power. When Pendragon sends a giant to kidnap Elaine, a simple farmer, Jack (Kerwin Mathews), witnesses the abduction, and bravely slays the beast. Undeterred, Pendragon has more power and creatures at his disposal. The film is loosely based on the traditional tale "Jack the Giant Killer" and features extensive use of stop-motion animation. It was directed by Nathan H. Juran and later reedited and rereleased as a musical by producer Edward Small because Columbia Pictures, which released The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, threatened to sue Small. The original print without the music was released 30 years later with no protest from Columbia Pictures, while United Artists continues to own the rights to the musical version of the film. The film reunited Mathews, Juran, Small and actor Torin Thatcher, all of whom had worked on The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (Movie Trailer HD) 1958
Classic ClipsThe 7th Voyage of Sinbad is a 1958 American Technicolor heroic fantasy adventure film directed by Nathan H. Juran and starring Kerwin Mathews, Kathryn Grant, Torin Thatcher, Richard Eyer, and Alec Mango. It was distributed by Columbia Pictures and produced by Charles H. Schneer. It was the first of three Sinbad feature films from Columbia, the later two from the 1970s being The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977). All three Sinbad films were conceptualized by Ray Harryhausen using Dynamation, the full color widescreen stop-motion animation technique that he created. Sailing to Baghdad after a narrow escape from the monster island of Colossa, the wedding plans of legendary hero Sinbad (Kerwin Mathews) and Princess Parisa (Kathryn Grant) are spoiled by the scheming sorcerer Sokurah (Torin Thatcher). In return for his previous help with the cyclops on Colossa, Sokurah demands that Sinbad retrieve a lamp he lost on the island. When Sinbad refuses, the conjurer shrinks Parisa, forcing the sailor and his crew back to the high seas in order to save her. While similarly named, the film does not follow the storyline of the tale "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor" but instead has more in common with the Third and Fifth voyages of Sinbad. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad was selected in 2008 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (Movie Trailer HD) 1973
Classic ClipsThe Golden Voyage of Sinbad is a 1973 fantasy adventure film directed by Gordon Hessler, featuring stop-motion effects by Ray Harryhausen. The film stars John Phillip Law, Tom Baker, Takis Emmanuel, and Caroline Munro. Based on the Arabian Nights tales of Sinbad the Sailor, it is the second of three Sinbad films released by Columbia Pictures, following The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and preceding Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977). Sinbad's adventure pits him against a master magician who's trying to reach the Fountain of Destiny on the lost land of Lemuria in a bid to be crowned the new leader of Marabia. Sinbad and his crew must battle an array of monsters before finally coming face to face with his foe. The film follows the story of Captain Sinbad (Law) as he embarks on a dangerous quest to find the Fountain of Destiny after discovering a magical golden amulet. Joined by a vizier and a slave girl (Munro), he must battle the evil sorcerer Koura (Baker) and mythical creatures to unlock the amulet's powers before Koura can use them for evil. The Golden Voyage of Sinbad premiered on 25 December 1973 and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its stop-motion effects and fantastical adventure elements; however, some critics noted flaws in the storyline and character development. Commercially, the film emerged as a box-office success, grossing over $11 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $982,351. Moreover, it also won the first Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film.
