Occam’s Razor Gardening, Cooking & Canning Ep 35
Occam's Razor Gardening, Cooking & CanningWelcome. A beautiful 25C this morning with a lower humidex expected than yesterday, but rain is in the forecast for the next 3 days, and free water within reasonable amounts is always a bonus. The squash continue to vine and are being trained vertically. The peas are still filling out. The Dill is still not cut down. The back row of beans is now doing better than the front row. The front squashes continue to evade further critter destruction and the Bird Shit Berry Bush has been providing fruit since yesterday. Please join me in the garden. Occam’s Razor Gardening, Cooking & Canning Ep 36
Occam's Razor Gardening, Cooking & CanningWelcome. Things have cooled to below seasonal. An overnight low of 17C with a high of only 22C for the next 3 days with cloudy skies and hopefully actual rain. Found some bug eggs on a squash leaf – should of scraped them off but I ripped off the part of the leaf that had the eggs instead. More Squash vine training is underway. The Zucchini are flowering but I have yet to see a successful squash emerge yet. The peas are almost ready, maybe by the end of today I’ll have some for supper. The Bird Shit Berry Bush has now given me just over 200g of berries over the last two days. I will keep them refrigerated until I get enough for my first canning batch. I can’t wait! The survivor Sunflower is now officially “Butch.” The Morning Glories continue to climb and anothe pumpkin plant has popped up in the front. And I have a toad living in the front garden under a board propped up on the parapet. Maybe I’ll be awake enough tomorrow morning to remember to show you where it hangs out. Please join me in the garden. Occam’s Razor Gardening, Cooking & Canning Ep 39
Occam's Razor Gardening, Cooking & CanningWelcome. The Zucchini are flowering more. At least one new potential to be the first squash. The beans still struggle and ¼ are flowering. The peas have given me my first taste for supper tonight. The potatoes are healthy. And Butch is a fighter in the front garden box. Approx 540 g in bird shit berry bush berries in three pickin’s. This Garden is blessed so far in finding a balance with the critters, mostly. 1/2 the dill has been harvested but you won’t see the change until tomorrow’s episode. I’m trying out a “Butch Cam” on and off, live cam of Butch the Sunflower. Look on my Channel to see if it’s live. Please join me in the garden. Occam’s Razor Gardening, Cooking & Canning Ep 43
Occam's Razor Gardening, Cooking & CanningWelcome. The Zucchini aren’t ready yet and got staked so their growth can be directed vertically.. A few more beans popped up today on a plant. Peas continue to be harvested for every supper. The Squashes got their second Turmeric made with milk this time on the top leaves early this morning after doing the under-leaves yesterday. That should help with the mildew that is so prevalent in humid Quinte West, and help to deter those nasty squash bugs. I’ve only found eggs on two leaves so far, and always a week after the turmeric spray. Now that the growth is accelerating, more frequent sprays will be needed to do the new growth. Turmeric Spray: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LICyXCOU7xw The onions are starting to get big enough to harvest, but I will wait for the tops to fall over. I have more seed onions in the wings for the second sow. Butch the Sunflower still lives, the front box continues to grow into the jungle it will become by the end of July. The Bird Shit Berry Bush has given me 1.1 kilos to jam into the 3rd batch. Look for that video. Here’s batch #2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4tp5yozK-I Please join me in the garden.
