Hebrews 5 & 6 - Grow up beyond the simple basics! 2025
RVTAHeb 6:12 that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Heb 6:13 For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, Heb 6:14 saying, "I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU, AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU." They are not to be sluggish or lazy in their obedience to Elohim. He reminds them that through perseverance, they will inherit the promise made to Abraham. The last chapter told us that we are to enter into the rest of salvation and be obedient to Yahweh and His Sabbaths (Heb. 4:9-11). The writer of Hebrews had to emphasize assembling on the Sabbath because many were not doing it (Heb. 10:24-25). The previous chapter concludes by telling us that we have a great High Priest in heaven (Heb. 4:15-16). The beginning of this chapter tells us the requirements for high priest among men. He must be a man, for one thing. The writer of Hebrews (probably Paul) is telling the Messianics to grow up beyond the simple basics. We saw in chapter 4 where they were told to observe the Sabbath, even though this should have been second nature to them. In chapter 5 Paul tells the Hebrews to obey the Torah of Yahweh and to quit relying on the grace of Elohim to overcome their lack of obedience (Heb. 5:11-14). That is the setting for chapter 6. Paul says, let us leave the "elementary principles of Messiah" and go on to maturity. Join us and see how Paul tells us to do precisely that! River Valley Torah Assembly23 views -
Hebrews 3 & 4 - Is obedience to the Heavenly Father optional? Any chapters say DON'T obey Him? 2025
RVTAHeb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. The author now is quoting from Psalm 95:8-11. He is using the quote as an illustration of His rest that Israel missed out on due to their hardened hearts. That Psalm specifically states that they had hardened hearts and did not know Elohim's "way." Their sin was disobedience due to lack of faithfulness. The Hebrew word used for "rest" in Psalm 95 is the word: menuwchah, men-oo-khaw'; or menuchah, men-oo-khaw'; fem. of H4495; repose or (adv.) peacefully; fig. consolation (spec. matrimony); hence (concr.) an abode:--comfortable, ease, quiet, rest (-ing place), still. Obedience to Elohim being tied to this same "rest" is abundantly clear in Deut. 12:8-9 In that chapter Elohim tells Israel that when they do enter the land (rest) then they will perform sacrifices, pay tithes, not eat blood, etc.. In other words, then they DO enter His "rest," they will obey Him. The last phrase of the verse is very interesting also. The tie to the account of creation and Elohim resting from His works on the seventh day is unmistakable. Gen. 2:2-3 Heb 4:4 For He has thus said somewhere concerning the seventh day, "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS"; Heb 4:5 and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST." The contrast is made between the fact that Elohim rested on the seventh day and the fact that those in disobedience from lack of faithfulness will not enter into His rest (fellowship). Heb 4:6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, Heb 4:7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." Just as the Sabbath was designated as Elohim's day of rest for all mankind at creation, there is a day designated as a day of rest for all people. That is the day a person has fellowship with their Creator and Redeemer through obedience to Him. David said the day to hear His voice and circumcise your hearts in obedience to His Word is today. Psalm 95:7-11 It is to be every day that we can have that rest through obedience to His Word. But the vast majority of people in the world today ignore His Word and His ways (Torah). Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. If Joshua had given them the rest that Elohim had spoken of, then David would not have spoken of another day. Joshua led the people into their Land of rest, but they were still disobedient to His Word. That rest is obedience to His Torah. Joshua told the people they were to be obedient to the Torah of Elohim given through Moses and then they would enter that rest. Joshua 1:13-17 Heb 4:9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. The Greek word for "Sabbath rest" is sabbatismos which is only used here in Scripture. According to other ancient sources in Christian and secular literature, the word sabbatismos means "Sabbath keeping." The literal meaning of the verse is this, "For the people of Elohim, there is still a Sabbath-keeping." In context with the previous verses, this passage is telling us that we are to enter into His rest of obedience. And if we are His people, we are to keep His Sabbath just as He rested on the seventh day of creation. Heb 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.19 views -
Hebrews 2 - The "word spoken through angels" is what? 2025
RVTAHeb 2:2 For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, The "word spoken through angels" is the Torah of Elohim. We are told this by both Stephen and Paul. Acts 7:53 you who received the law as ordained by angels, and yet did not keep it.” Gal. 3:19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed should come to whom the promise had been made. Every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense. Torah is just in it's judgments, regardless of what Christianity teaches today. The next verse asks a rhetorical question. Heb 2:3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, This passage is better understood in conjunction with verse 2. "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?" If we neglect so great a salvation, there is no escape. We will perish because the judgments in the Torah condemn us since we have all sinned at one time or another. This message of salvation through Yeshua was spoken of by Yeshua Himself. Mark 1:14-15 And after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Matt. 4:17 and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away. Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” And was confirmed by those who heard Him. Acts 3:19-21 “Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, 21whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. Acts 17:30-31 “Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent, 31because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.” The book of Hebrews makes several statements that sound like warnings. In this chapter he tells us to pay much closer attention to what we have heard or else we might drift from it. Messiah was not merely an angel or merely a man. He is the Word of Yahweh made flesh and dwelt among us. River Valley Torah Assembly14 views 1 comment -
Hebrews 1 - Who is the Messiah? 2025
RVTATo understand this letter (and Messiah Himself), one must lose the pagan concept of the Trinity and understand that Messiah is just as He is described in Scripture. He is literally the spoken word of the Father that became flesh and dwelt among us. Nothing more. Nothing less. Paul starts by telling us that Elohim has spoken in time past through the prophets, but has recently spoken to us in these last days in His Son. The term "last days" is a reference to the time between the first arrival of Messiah to the time of His return and beyond. We are in the "last days" spoken of in Scripture. He also created all things through His Son. Heb 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; Yeshua is the brightness of His Father's glory. John 14:9-10 Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. He is the express image of His person (essence) Col. 1:15-16 And He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation. 16For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him. Yeshua upholds all things because He is the Word of His Father's power. Col. 1:17-18 And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything. He purged our sins. 1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Col. 3:1 If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. What does it mean that He sat down at the right hand of the Father? The right hand of the Father is symbolic of His power and righteousness. Ex. 15:6 “Thy right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power, Thy right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. Psalm. 44:3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land; And their own arm did not save them; But Thy right hand, and Thine arm, and the light of Thy presence, For Thou didst favor them. Psalm 48:10 As is Thy name, O God, So is Thy praise to the ends of the earth; Thy right hand is full of righteousness. But why is Yeshua now sitting at the right hand of the Father? He is to sit there until He makes His enemies His footstool. Psalm 110:1 The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.” There He waits until that day. River Valley Torah Assembly15 views
