His genealogy is as follows: Abu Abdullāh Muhammad Ibn Ismā`īl Ibn Ibrāhīm Ibn al-Mughīrah Ibn Bardizbah al-Bukhārī. His father Ismā`īl was a well-known and famous muhaddith in his time and had been blessed with the chance of being in the company of Imām Mālik, Hammād Ibn Zaid and also Abdullāh Ibn Mubārak (rahimahullahum). امام بخاری رحمہ اللہ کو حدیث میں امیر المومنین کہا جاتا ہے۔ ان کا شجرہ نسب اس طرح ہے: ابو عبد اللہ محمد ابن اسماعیل ابن ابراہیم ابن المغیرہ ابن بردزبہ البخاری۔ ان کے والد اسماعیل اپنے زمانے میں ایک مشہور اور مشہور محدث تھے اور انہیں امام مالک، حماد ابن زید اور عبداللہ ابن مبارک رحمہ اللہ کی صحبت کا موقع ملا تھا۔
