Silvana Mangano (Roma, 21 aprile 1930 – Madrid, 16 dicembre 1989) è stata un'attrice italiana. Tra le maggiori attrici del cinema italiano, per le sue interpretazioni ha ottenuto tre David di Donatello e tre Nastri d'argento. Ha sedici anni quando nel 1946, Silvana Mangano vince il concorso di miss Roma. È bella e viene subito notata da registi di fama e tra loro Giuseppe De Santis, che la scelse come la mondina protagonista del suo film Riso amaro, che farà di lei un’icona. Sul set conosce il produttore Dino De Laurentiis, che sposerà nel 1949 e da cui avrà quattro figli. Tra gli altri film che la videro protagonista ricordiamo Mambo, del 1954, La grande guerra di Mario Monicelli del 1959 che vince il Leone d’oro a Venezia; nel 1960 è la protagonista di Jovanka e le altre, uno dei ruoli più drammatici da lei interpretati; nel 1961 interpreta Crimen di Mario Camerini. Nel 1963 diventa Edda Ciano ne Il processo di Verona per la regia di Carlo Lizzani. Gli anni Sessanta sono i più proficui per l’attrice romana. Pier Paolo Pasolini la vuole con se in La terra vista dalla luna, Edipo Re, Teorema e nel Decameron. Le scriverà in seguito: “Gli aspetti della tua natura, puntualità, senso del dovere, lealtà, producono, strano a dirsi, il mistero della tua bellezza. La tua bellezza amara: che si offre incombente, come una teofania, uno splendore di perla; mentre in realtà, tu sei lontana“. Rimase quindi lontana dallo schermo per un lungo periodo, poco felice anche per la sua vita privata: nel 1981 perse il figlio Federico in un incidente aereo, un lutto dal quale non riuscì mai a risollevarsi completamente, e, tra il 1984 e il 1985, si separò dal marito, trasferendosi a Madrid. Proprio nel 1984 era ritornata al cinema, nell'inquietante ruolo della sacerdotessa Ramallo per il fantascientifico Dune di D. Lynch, prodotto dalla figlia Raffaella. Nel 1987, già malata di tumore, interpretò il suo ultimo film, Oci ciornie di N. Michalkov, nel ruolo della borghese Elisa, moglie dello spiantato Romano, interpretato da Mastroianni. La Mangano morì a Madrid il 16 dicembre 1989.

It chronicles the clash between Orson Welles and William Randolph Hearst over the production and release of Welles's 1941 film Citizen Kane, which has been considered the greatest film ever made. In 1941, 24-year-old Orson Welles - armed with the most lucrative motion picture contract ever - wrote, directed, and starred in "Citizen Kane", a masterpiece many regard as the best film ever made. Episode 3: Hollywood had become a fairy-tale city of fabulous wealth and dizzying success, when a series of scandals shattered the dream. Details of the Fatty Arbuckle case so shocked America that producers appointed Will Hays to clean up the industry before the public's moral outrage put them all out of work. Hays encouraged "human, heartwarming pictures" and issued a production code designed to keep films wholesome. The code was strictly enforced, yet directors still managed to get their message across. Episode 4: The outbreak of World War I provided Hollywood with one of its greatest sources of plots - and profits. As the American mood shifted away from neutrality, Hollywood followed, abandoning films with pacificst themes for stories of war at the front. With the arrival of peace war films vanished until King Vidor made "The Big Parade" in 1925. Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, it made a fortune for MGM. "What Price Glory?", directed by Raoul Walsh, quickly followed. Lewis Milestone's "All Quiet on the Western Front" showed the German side of the conflict, and became the most powerful statement on the war by the generation that fought it.
