At one point it was thought these games were the same except for the graphics, but after analyzing them I've found some slight gameplay differences. On this page I'll concentrate on the differences between Saboteur and The A-Team, for more information on the gameplay itself look at the Saboteur page. It's unknown why Atari decided to change Saboteur into The A-Team, but we assume it's because they wanted a game based on the then popular A-Team TV show and didn't want to wait for a new game to be developed. At that point Saboteur was ready for release and Atari decided that they would attempt to integrate A-Team characters into a game that was already finished. The results are interesting at best, confusing to say the least. (Source - AtariProtos.com)2 views -

The game was designed by Larry Kaplan who joined Atari in 1976. It was the first game he developed for the company. Air-Sea Battle involves the player controlling a gun to shoot down various targets to earn points in different themed areas. In the various gameplay modes, the player can either control the angle of the gun or move the gun across the screen or adjust the guns speed as it automatically moves for aiming. Inspired by the game Combat (1977) that was in development at the same time, Kaplan created various modes to the game. The game was inspired by various arcade games of the era, with video game historians identifying the similar gameplay in arcade games like Anti-Aircraft (1975), Drop Zone 4 (1975), Sea Wolf (1976) and Destroyer (1977). Sears published Air-Sea Battle as Target Fun and used it as the pack-in game for its Tele-Games rebranding of the Atari VCS. Video gave Air-Sea Battle the award for the "Best Target Game" in 1980. The player controls a square avatar whose quest is to explore an open-ended environment to find a magical chalice and return it to the golden castle. The game world is populated by roaming enemies: three dragons that can eat the avatar and a bat that randomly steals and moves items around the game world. Adventure introduced new elements to console games, including enemies that continue to move when offscreen. The game was conceived as a graphical version of the 1977 text adventure Colossal Cave Adventure. Robinett spent approximately a year designing and coding the game while overcoming a variety of technical limitations of the VCS's hardware, as well as difficulties with Atari management. As a result of conflicts with Atari's management which denied giving public credit for programmers, Robinett programmed a secret room within the game that contained his name; this room was only found by players after the game was shipped and Robinett had left Atari. While not the first such Easter egg, Robinett's secret room pioneered this idea within video games and other forms of media, and it since has become a part of popular culture, such as in the climax of Ernest Cline's 2011 novel Ready Player One and its 2018 film adaptation. Adventure received positive reviews at the time of its release and in the decades since; it is often named as one of the industry's most influential games and among the greatest video games of all time. It is one of the first action-adventure and fantasy games, and inspired other games in the genre. More than one million cartridges of Adventure were sold, and the game has been included in numerous Atari 2600 game collections for modern computer hardware. The game's prototype code was used as the basis for the 1979 Superman game, and a planned sequel eventually formed the basis for the Swordquest games. (Source - Wikipedia)10 views -
