Each world is randomly generated and also consists of a world generator that the player may choose to tweak. To survive the game, the player must gather items and resources, at first by picking up objects scattered throughout the land. When a certain combination of items are met, additional items, tools, structures, etc., may created and/or unlocked via recipes in the crafting menu. As a survival game, the player must maintain food to survive. Additionally, insanity is also an element in the game. If sanity drops too low, monsters that lurk behind the shadows of the mind, may come to physical reality and attack the player. Finally, as monsters roam the land, the player must defend against these beasts with weapons, armor, and even magic.

It takes place parallel to the first game where War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, went to Earth after he was stripped of his powers and in tricked in causing a war between heaven and hell. His brother Death is convinced of his innocence and sets out at the same time to resurrect humanity and prove his brother's innocence. He travels through different lands and locations to restore the mistakes and kill those responsible. The gameplay with its third-person hack-and-slash is similar to the first game. The environments consists of large open world areas where dungeons lead to new locations. Next to the action there are also still many environment-based puzzles that require the manipulation of levers, tiles, pressure plates, doors and portals to progress. Compared to War in the first game, Death is much more agile and can perform acrobatic moves.

The game has third-person hack-and-slash gameplay with a large variety in weapons and combos. There are also sections with very different gameplay: flying in the air, fighting on horseback, and shooting angels out of the sky with a Redeemer ranged weapon. Warmastered Edition is a remastered version of the game, similar to Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition. The gameplay itself is identical. This version has native 1080p rendering and the Wii U version runs with 30 FPS.

Pink Mite: a vertical side-scroller where the player controls a pink butterfly inside a bubble. The player must hop and float avoiding dangerous obstacles while attempting to collect every single bubble along the way. The Queen: a game similar to Pong but also attempting to dodge simultaneously. The player controls a rectangle divided in two colors, cyan and hot pink. There is a bouncing pellet that bounces around the edges of the screen and the objective is to keep the pellet from hitting the hot pink side of the rectangle.
