The player controls the selected heroine and fights many types of zombies such as normal, crawling and vomiting zombies as well as dogs. They also need to avoids traps and collects coins. Each heroine has a guitar as the main weapon and can use several magic spells. The game has 20 levels and a hard rock/metal soundtrack. While the fighting sections are played from a side-scrolling side view, there are also driving levels where they ride a bike shown from a behind view.

All the powers from the previous game are available to the characters from the start, but some new gimmicks are added, for example, the ability to fire projectiles on some levels. Murfy the greenbottle appears on some levels to aid the players. The game includes regular side-scrolling levels, "invaded" versions of levels that need to be completed as quickly as possible and rhythm-based levels with humorous covers of popular songs.

By playing as either a Warrior, a Wizard, a Assassin or a Shaman you have to traverse dungeons, defeat enemies and loot everything you can in order to survive. You can learn new skills in Tomes you find along the way and buy/sell items at shops. The entire game is procedural so you won't find items/enemies in the same place each time you play.

At the start of the game a large gate is shown with nine squares. Each square denotes a series of rooms that introduce a new puzzle element. Director's Cut is an updated version of Q.U.B.E.. The gameplay is largely identical, but it has been reworked with a new story for the campaign written by Rob Yescombe. The player is now an astronaut inside an alien device hurtling towards Earth.

However, their progress is quickly impeded by other Toy Pokémon who are itching to fight. Like the original, but unlike the second, this game features multiplayer of up to 4 players. This game focuses completely on battling: unlike the first two installments, there is no adventure mode. All Pokémon from the first five generations are available, from Bulbasaur to Genesect. Up to 100 Pokémon can battle at once. Also, this game is the first Wii U title to utilize the console's NFC technology. Pokémon figures can be purchased from retailers and scanned into the system via the GamePad, importing the Pokémon into the game.
