Deep Purple ) Shades of Deep Purple ) 1968 (Parlophone UK EU 2015)
THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. Shades of Deep Purple is the debut album by the English rock band Deep Purple, released in July 1968 on Tetragrammaton in the US and in September 1968 on Parlophone in the UK. The band, initially called Roundabout, was the idea of former Searchers drummer Chris Curtis, who recruited Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore before leaving the project. The Mk. I line-up of the band was completed by vocalist/frontman Rod Evans, along with bassist Nick Simper and drummer Ian Paice, in March 1968. After about 2 months of rehearsals, Shades of Deep Purple was recorded in only 3 days in May 1968 and contains 4 original songs and 4 covers, thoroughly rearranged to include classical interludes and sound more psychedelic. Stylistically, the music is close to psychedelic rock and progressive rock, 2 genres with an ever-growing audience in the late 1960s. The album was not well received in the UK, where it sold very few copies and did not chart. In the US, on the other hand, it was a success and the single "Hush", an energetic rock track written by Joe South and originally recorded by Billy Joe Royal, became very popular at the time, reaching number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The good sales of the album and the intense radio play of the single contributed largely to the attention Deep Purple would get in their early US tours and also during the 1970s. Modern reviews of the album are generally positive and consider Shades of Deep Purple an important piece in the history of Deep Purple. Linda Ronstadt ) What's New ) 1983 (Asylum US)
THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. What's New is an album of traditional pop standards released by American singer Linda Ronstadt in 1983. It represents the 1st in a trilogy of 1980s albums Ronstadt recorded with arranger Nelson Riddle. The album was a major change in direction because Ronstadt was then considered the leading female vocalist in rock. Both her record company and manager, Peter Asher, were very reluctant to produce this album with Ronstadt, but eventually her determination won them over and the albums exposed a whole new generation to the sounds of the pre-swing and swing eras. What's New was released in September 1983 and spent 81 weeks on the main Billboard album chart. The album also reached number 2 on the jazz albums chart. It was RIAA certified Triple Platinum for sales of over 3 million copies in the US alone. Global sales surpassed 5 million. 🔘 Side 1: What's New? Cyndi Lauper ) She's So Unusual ) 1983 (CBS/Portrait Records US)
THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. She's So Unusual is the 1st solo album by American pop singer Cyndi Lauper, released on October 14, 1983, by Portrait Records. It stands out for its commercial success, achieving 4 top-five singles—a pioneering achievement for a female artist's 1st album. In 1978, Lauper formed the band Blue Angel. The band soon signed a recording contract with Polydor Records; however, their debut album, Blue Angel, was a commercial failure. The band parted ways after firing their manager, who sued Lauper for $80,000 and forced her into bankruptcy. Lauper went on to sing in many New York night clubs, and caught the eye of David Wolff, who became her manager and subsequently got her signed to Portrait Records. 6 singles were released from the album, with "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" becoming a worldwide hit and her 1st song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. "Time After Time" became her 1st number-one hit on the chart and experienced similar success worldwide. Lauper found success with the next 2 singles as well, with both "She Bop" and "All Through the Night" peaking in the top five. This makes Lauper the 1st female singer to have 4 top five singles on the Hot 100 from one album. The album is primarily new wave–based, with many of the songs being influenced by synth-pop and pop rock. Upon its release, the album received positive reviews from music critics, who noted Lauper's unique vocals. Lauper earned several awards and accolades for the album, including 2 Grammy Awards at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards, one of which was for Best New Artist. She's So Unusual peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and stayed in the chart's top forty for 65 weeks. It has sold over 7 million copies in the US and 16 million copies worldwide. This makes it Lauper's best-selling album to date and one of the best-selling albums of the 1980s. In 2019, the album was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". 🔘 Side 1: Money Changes Everything Girls Just Want to Have Fun When You Were Mine Time After Time 🔘 Side 2: She Bop All Through the Night Witness I'll Kiss You He's So Unusual Yeah Yeah238 views -
