Quake II’s console port in 1999 for the N64 went its own way via a mostly original campaign of 19 continuous levels coupled with a dark ambient soundtrack by Aubrey Hodges.
The 2023 remaster goes the extra mile and brings the N64 campaign to other platforms for the first time, even to the point of mimicking its slightly altered physics. To not spoil things any further, it is left to the player to discover what is in there and what is not and come to his own verdict of the overall experience.
