Steve Miller - The Joker
SIGOPSThe Joker," was released as a single in October 1973 and became a worldwide hit, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 in early 1974. The song's lyrics include references to other Steve Miller Band songs, such as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangster of Love," and feature the invented word "pompatus," which Miller reportedly misheard from a song by the Medallions. The song's success was pivotal in establishing the band's mainstream popularity. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah Some call me the gangster of love Some people call me Maurice 'Cause I speak of the pompatus of love [Verse 2] People talk about me, baby Say I'm doing you wrong, doing you wrong Well, don't you worry, baby, don't worry 'Cause I'm right here, right here, right here, right here at home [Chorus] 'Cause I'm a picker, I'm a grinner I'm a lover and I'm a sinner I play my music in the sun I'm a joker, I'm a smoker I'm a midnight toker I sure don't want to hurt no one I'm a picker, I'm a grinner I'm a lover and I'm a sinner I play my music in the sun I'm a joker, I'm a smoker I'm a midnight toker I get my lovin' on the run Woo-ooh, woo-ooh [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] You're the cutest thing that I ever did see I really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time Oee, baby, I'll sure show you a good time [Chorus] 'Cause I'm a picker, I'm a grinner I'm a lover and I'm a sinner I play my music in the sun I'm a joker, I'm a smoker I'm a midnight toker I get my lovin' on the run I'm a picker, I'm a grinner I'm a lover and I'm a sinner I play my music in the sun I'm a joker, I'm a smoker I'm a midnight toker I sure don't want to hurt no one [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] Woo-ooh, woo-ooh [Outro] People keep talking about me, baby Say I'm doing you wrong Well, don't you worry, don't worry, no, don't worry, mama 'Cause I'm right here at home You're the cutest thing I ever did see Really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time C'mon baby, now I'll show you a good time25 views -
Willie Nelson - Funny How Time Slips Away
SIGOPSNelson wrote this in 1961 for Patsy Cline, one of only a few big names in Nashville at the time who understood him. Nelson was eventually rejected by the Nashville labels as too offbeat, too artsy-fartsy for mainstream country music. Nelson said of his early experience in Nashville: “I enjoyed fooling around with phrasing, but it made my sound noncommercial for all those Nashville ears who were listening for the same old stuff and misunderstood anything original.” Billy Walker (a star at the Grand Ole Opry at the time) actually snapped this song up and was the first to record it. Even though Nelson showed early promise with this song, and “Crazy”, recorded by Patsy Cline, he couldn’t get a Nashville recording contract that allowed him to do what he wanted with his music. He eventually returned to Texas, started over, and did it his own way. The song became a live staple of Nelson’s and a classic standard, used by stars like, George Jones Elvis Presley, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Jones, Al Green & Tina Turner. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Well, hello there My, it's been a long, long time How am I doing? Oh, I guess that I'm doing fine It's been so long now But it seems now that it was only yesterday Gee, ain't it funny How time slips away? [Verse 2] How's your new love? I hope that he's doing fine I heard you told him That you'd love him 'til the end of time Now that's the same thing that you told me Seems like just the other day Gee, ain't it funny How time slips away? [Verse 3] I gotta go now I guess I'll see you around Don't know when though Never know when I'll be back in town But remember what I tell you In time, you're gonna pay And it's surprising how time slips away53 views 1 comment -
Warren Zevon - Werewolves Of London
SIGOPSWerewolves of London is a 1978 single by American singer-songwriter Warren Zevon, written by Zevon, LeRoy Marinell, and Waddy Wachtel. A Jewish boy from Chicago singing about werewolves in London? Quite logical.. The 1977 song was a fitting representation of Warren Zevon’s macabre outlook on life, as expressed in many of his other songs. The song was done as a joke, written in 15 minutes as they were watching B Horror Movies. Warren was never a fan of the pop song, and didn’t want it on the album. He wanted other meaningful tracks in its place. It is also fitting that this is Warren’s only Top 40 hit given that he never really cared for the song. It first appeared on Zevon's third studio album, Excitable Boy, released in 1978, and was issued as a single by Asylum Records in March of that year. The song became Zevon's only Top 40 hit in the United States, peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1978. It also reached No. 8 on the Australian Kent Music Report, No. 18 on Canada's RPM Top Singles chart, and No. 11 in New Zealand Lyrics: [Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain He was looking for the place called Lee Ho Fook's Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein [Chorus] Ah-hoo, werewolves of London Ah-hoo Ah-hoo, werewolves of London Ah-hoo [Verse 2] You hear him howling around your kitchen door You better not let him in Little old lady got mutilated late last night Werewolves of London again [Chorus] Ah-hoo, werewolves of London Ah-hoo Ah-hoo, werewolves of London Ah-hoo, huh [Instrumental Break] [Verse 3] He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amok in Kent Lately, he's been overheard in Mayfair You better stay away from him He'll rip your lungs out, Jim Huh, I'd like to meet his tailor [Chorus] Ah-hoo, werewolves of London Ah-hoo Ah-hoo, werewolves of London Ah-hoo [Verse 4] Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the queen Doing the werewolves of London I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the queen, uh Doing the werewolves of London I saw a werewolf drinking a piña colada at Trader Vic's And his hair was perfect Na! [Chorus] Ah-hoo Werewolves of London Huh, draw blood, uh Ah-hoo Werewolves of London61 views 3 comments -
Beatles - Across The Universe (In Studio Video)
SIGOPSIn a 1970 interview, John Lennon referred to this song as one of the best lyrics I’ve written. In fact, it could be the best. It’s good poetry, or whatever you call it, without chewin' it. See, the ones I like are the ones that stand as words, without melody. They don’t have to have any melody, like a poem, you can read them." Written during 1967-68, the lyrics are typical of Lennon’s songwriting during the time: dreamy, abstract and highly image based. The title of the song was used as that of a 2007 film based around Beatles songs. The song was recorded on February 4, 1968. At the 40th anniversary of that day, NASA beamed “Across the Universe” into space in the direction of the North Star, Polaris. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind Possessing and caressing me [Chorus] Jai Guru Deva, Om Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world [Verse 2] Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes They call me on and on across the universe Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe [Chorus] Jai Guru Deva, Om Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world [Verse 3] Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through my open ears Inciting and inviting me Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns It calls me on and on across the universe [Chorus] Jai Guru Deva, Om Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world [Outro] Jai Guru Deva Jai Guru Deva Jai Guru Deva Jai Guru Deva Jai Guru Deva Jai Guru Deva61 views 1 comment -

Al Stewart - Year Of The Cat
SIGOPSYear of the Cat is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Al Stewart, released as a single in July 1976 in the UK (October 1976 in the US). The song is the title track of his 1976 album Year of the Cat, and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, in January 1976 by engineer Alan Parsons. The song peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the consecutive weeks of March 5 and 12, 1977. Although Stewart's highest placed single on that chart was 1978's "Time Passages", Year of the Cat has remained Stewart's signature recording, receiving regular airplay on both classic rock and folk rock stations. Lyrics: [Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] On a morning from a Bogart movie In a country where they turn back time You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre Contemplating a crime She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running Like a watercolour in the rain Don't bother asking for explanations She'll just tell you that she came [Refrain] In the year of the cat [Verse 2] She doesn't give you time for questions As she locks up your arm in hers And you follow till your sense of which direction Completely disappears By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls There's a hidden door she leads you to These days, she says, "I feel my life!" Just like a river running through [Refrain] The year of the cat [Verse 3] Well, she looks at you so coolly And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea She comes in Incense and Patchouli So, you take her to find what's waiting inside [Refrain] The year of the cat [Instrumental Break] [Verse 4] Well, morning comes and you're still with her And the bus and the tourists are gone And you've thrown away your choice and lost your ticket So, you have to stay on But, the drum beat strains of the night remain In the rhythm of the new-born day You know sometime you're bound to leave her But, for now you're going to stay [Refrain] In the year of the cat Mm, year of the cat [Instrumental Outro]47 views 3 comments -

Electric Light Orchestra - Telephone Line
SIGOPSTelephone Line is a song by the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), released in May 1977 as part of their 1976 album A New World Record. It became one of ELO's most successful singles, topping the charts in Canada and New Zealand, and entering the top 10 in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. The song peaked at number 8 in the UK and number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for 23 weeks, the longest stay of any ELO song on that chart. It was ranked as the No. 15 song of 1977 by Billboard. The lyrics depict a man on a telephone, waiting for his lover to answer, expressing his loneliness and longing as he imagines what he would say if she picked up. The song opens with a distinctive American telephone ring, which frontman Jeff Lynne recreated by recording the sound from a call made from England to an unoccupied number in the US and then replicating it on a Moog synthesizer. This effect, combined with the song’s orchestral arrangements and doo-wop-inspired vocal bridge, gives it a nostalgic, emotional quality. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Hello, how are you? Have you been alright Through all those lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely nights? That's what I'd say I'd tell you everything If you'd pick up that telephone Yeah, yeah, yeah [Verse 2] Hey, how you feelin'? Are you still the same? Don't you realise the things we did, we did Were all for real, not a dream? I just can't believe They've all faded out of view Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Ooh-ooh [Pre-Chorus] Doo-wop, doo-be-doo-doo-wop, doo-wah, doo-lang Blue days, black nights, doo-wah, doo-lang I look into the sky (The love you need ain't gonna see you through) And I wonder why (The little things you planned ain't coming true) [Chorus] Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight [Verse 3] Okay, so no one's answering Well, can't you just let it ring a little longer, longer, longer? Oh I'll just sit tight Through shadows of the night Let it ring forevermore, oh Yeah, yeah, yeah [Pre-Chorus] Doo-wop, doo-be-doo-doo-wop, doo-wah, doo-lang Blue days, black nights, doo-wah, doo-lang I look into the sky (The love you need ain't gonna see you through) And I wonder why (The little things you planned ain't coming true) [Chorus] Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight129 views 2 comments
