Revelation Overview

The last few verses of the book of Revelation are critical to both the conclusion, exhortation, and warning of the book. We take a brief look at Deuteronomy 12:32 into chapter 13 for a comparison of the warning of tampering with the Word of God. The book of Revelation is a blessing to those who read and obey it. But we must understand it in its context before we can get excited about its message. Three good commentaries are mentioned at the end, along with some others of note.

The New Jerusalem of Rev. 21 is a fascinating subject, and our future eternal home. Much has been written on the subject, but not much accurate has been written or spoken. It is a future city involved in a future event, it is not something that is taking place now. This message ends at Rev. 22:5, where the subject of the New Jerusalem completes in John's vision.

Revelation chapter 20 is about the Millennial Reign, those reigning with Christ, the doom of Satan, the Beast and False prophet, and the wicked dead. The White Throne Judgment is at the close of the Millennial Reign, which is not to be confused with the Sheep and Goat judgment, or the Judgment Seat of Christ.

Revelation 19 brings the tribulation period to a close and reveals the second coming of Christ to judge the world. There is no rapture in this chapter, and nothing is close to addressing it. The chapter simply reveals the rejoicing over the harlot's destruction, the marriage of the Lamb, the second coming of Christ, the Armageddon war, and the doom of the beast and false prophet.

Chapter 18 is about the Commercial Babylon's destruction. It is a description of what happens to the center of the world's economy that has trafficked in more than money, but also the countless ruined lives throughout history. Those who had their investment in that system are shocked by its destruction.

Chapter 17 is about the mystery Babylon the mother of harlots. It is a description of what happens to the world religion that deceives the world, that begins at Babel in Genesis 11 and culminates in Rev. 17.

These chapters anticipate and prepare for the coming bowls of wrath that are poured out in Rev. 16. The announcements in chapter 14 are important and the preparation in chapter 15 setup the final judgements.

Chapter 13 is all about the Beast and false prophet. Technically, there are two Beasts, but we know them by other names: Anti-Christ and False prophet.

Chapters 6-11 bring the chronology of the Revelation to the midpoint of the tribulation period. The parenthetical aspects of John's vision are described and associated with the seal and trumpet judgments.

Some comments on "replacement theology" and it's anti-Semitic view that has become popular among some seminary groups and church leaders. It is a doctrine of demons, inspired by hell. The church will never replace Israel, the Bible would have to be rewritten to create that view.
