Understanding Biblical slavery and what to do about it

Slavery in the ANE
ThatChristianNerd7Hermeneutics (the study of interpreting the Bible) strongly emphasizes understanding the historical and cultural context (see the book grasping god's Word 4th edition). This means that, to understand the biblical slave laws, we need to understand the context and what is going on around Israel. We need to understand what was going on in the Ancient Near East. This video is dedicated to a good understanding of such a context. If you like this video, please like, share, and follow for more content. SLAVERY in the Bible? Biblical slavery introduction
ThatChristianNerd7One of the most challenging and surprising topics in the Bible, for both modern Christians and atheists, is what Scripture says about slavery. Passages that describe inheriting enslaved people as property, alongside the Bible’s apparent silence on explicitly condemning slavery, raise serious theological and moral questions. In this video series, I’ll examine what the Bible actually says about slavery, how these passages have been historically understood, and why this issue continues to challenge Christian belief today. My goal is not to dismiss the difficulty of these texts, but to offer clear, honest analysis for both believers and skeptics. Whether you’re a Christian wrestling with these passages or a non-believer questioning the moral claims of Christianity, this series is meant to provide context, clarity, and thoughtful engagement with one of the Bible’s most controversial topics.
