The Abomination of Desolation of Antiochus Epiphanes is prophesied in Daniel 8 and it is a forerunner of the yet-to-come Abomination of Desolation of the Antichrist which is prophesied in Daniel 9. I will argue that Antiochus Epiphanes proclaimed himself to be the god Zeus, and set up his idol in the Temple in Jerusalem-his Abomination of Desolation-- which led to the Jewish revolt of Judas Maccabaeus in the 160's BC. This is essential background for the world in which Jesus was born. I will also point out that Jesus celebrated Hanukkah.

We will look into the historical aspects of the man called "Nimrod" and the "Tower of Babel". The Biblical narrative found in Genesis 10 and 11, concludes the part of Genesis that is frequently considered to be fables, or at best legends, with no basis in reality. The "Table of Nations" found in Genesis 10 makes special mention of Nimrod in the land of Shinar. Then in Genesis 11 we find the Biblical account of the tower built in this land of Shinar, resulting in the confusion of languages. As we look at the accounts of Nimrod and the tower, we'll ask some specific questions: Just who is "Nimrod"? Where was his kingdom? Is there any extra-biblical evidence? What and where was the tower of Babel? Why was it built? Why was God displeased? And, what about languages?

The first part is taken from Jesus' response to the Pharisees concerning the resurrection in Matthew 22:29. The complete statement is "You are mistaken because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God" (NEB). Science and its views of origins are mistaken because it is operating on a limited knowledge base, rejecting the scriptures and the power of God. As a result, it will be impossible for science to arrive at a correct understanding of creation and the natural world. The current drift from Darwin and the contrasting trend toward intelligent beginnings, once again leaves scientists wondering where they went wrong. Christians have the answer. Dragon stories are ubiquitous; nearly every ancient culture has one. Many ancient historians, including Herodotus and Josephus, report on dragons. Alexander the Great and Marco Polo reported seeing dragons. Cities around the world maintain monuments, sculptures and paintings of dragons. Ancient books, including the Bible and the Epic of Gilgamesh mention dragons. Dictionaries up to about 100 years ago, define dragons as a living creature. Are dragons a myth? Or are they legendary? This talk endeavors to explore what we know about dragons from both history and other writings.

This program will be a survey of pre-Columbian visitors to the New World since the time of Christ, with emphasis on evidence of the Vikings visiting near Alexandria, MN and the Viking Rune Stone.

All of us could list significant events which have happened in our lifetimes. Yet every one of them will be forgotten and irrelevant to the vast majority within a few hundred years.
