We're going to have a lovely time talking about the pivotal album release, from Yes entitled "The Yes Album." At an early stage of the band's growth, the lineup of Jon Anderson on vocals, Chris Squire on bass, Steve Howe on guitar, Tony Kaye on keyboards, and Bill Bruford on drums helped to establish one of the band's historical sounds with some of its most remembered songs, such as Steve Howe's feautre, "Clap" and band faves such as "Starship Trooper." This album is a legendary progressive rock album and one of the necessary components of any prog rock colleciton. We have come to a very special episode on Babylon 5, the episode entitled "Grail." This episode features a true seeker, Aldous Gaiic played by David Warner, who is on a quest to find the holy grail of legend. Despite the fact that most believe the grail to be non-existent and an impossible quest, the search goes on in the stars. He comes across Jinxo, played by Tom Booker, who believes his life is cursed, but finds that he has been looking at it in the wrong way. Jinxo undergoes a transformation into Thomas and then begins his own quest for the holy grail, finding purpose in his life. The episode also features great performances by William Sanderson as Deuce and Jim Norton as Onbuds Wellington. The episode has a great, inspiring message, and has many memorable moments. We at Ear Worms love our music and we love our science fiction. We're going to combine the two and have some fun with a friendly competition where our chat votes on their favorite science fiction TV show themes. This competition will include some of your favorites, including themes from some great franchises, such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Doctor Who, Buck Rogers, Space 1999, UFO, Thunderbirds, Blake 7 and many more. This will be an ongoing series as Round 1 might even have multiple parts to it. Our first mission will be to consolidate some franchises into their strongest themes, such as Star Trek's various themes and the changes made to the Doctor Who theme throughout the years. At the end of the day, it's all about having fun and learning about the composers and creativity put into these special themes. This is the second half of our discussion about the classic Doctor Who episode from the Tom Baker era entitled, "Genesis of the Daleks." this episode starred Tom Baker as the Doctor, Elizabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, and Ian Marter as Harry Sullivan. This episode provides the origin story of the Daleks, one of the most feared enemies of the Doctor. This origin story is set on the planet Skaro thousands of years in the past when the megalomaniac Davros created them using a mutated form of the DNA from the Kaled people who were in a centuries long war with the Thals. This episode raises a number of moral dilemmas. Chief among them is the quandry over the decision to commit genocide to eliminate the evil race that the Daleks become. The episode was written by Terry Nation, the creator of the Daleks in real life and was directed by David Maloney. The music for the spisode was scored by Dudley Simpson who very effectively blended chamber music with electronic synthesis. The episode features Michael Wisher as Davros and Roy Skelton as the voice of the Daleks.
