Methods to Eliminate Unwanted Behaviors with Dr. Bethany
K3_Homeschool_FoundationsDr. Bethany is the founder of C.O.R.E Methods. She has helped countless schools and parents eliminate unwanted behaviors at home and school. They are on a mission to help others feel safe; physically and psychologically where people can fully experience their feelings and select their behaviors. They aim to work with all the systems within an individual’s life to integrate techniques that decrease unwanted behaviors while developing beneficial behaviors. The C.O.R.E team will work with clients in their environment to assess school and classroom values. From there, a plan is created to guide the client toward success by providing recognition and sensory feedback. Their approach to unwanted behaviors is unique to what I have seen in the schools I have worked in. If you would like to work with Bethany and her team check out her amazing resources! Are Report Cards Hiding the Truth About Your Child's Education?
K3_Homeschool_FoundationsAre schools truly preparing our kids for success, or are parents being kept in the dark? In this episode, I explore the shocking disconnect between what parents believe about their children’s academic performance and the stark reality of national proficiency data. Inspired by a recent Time article, we’ll explore why 90% of parents think their kids excel, while only a fraction meet grade-level standards. We’ll unpack: * The hidden flaws in report cards and why they don’t always reflect academic achievement. * How systemic issues and outdated teaching methods have contributed to stagnant progress for decades. * The fear that prevents teachers from having honest conversations with parents—and what we can do about it. As both a former educator and future homeschooling mom, I share actionable steps to help you understand where your child stands academically and how to support them effectively. Let’s bridge the gap and set our kids up for success in reading, writing, and math! The Underground History of American Education|Part 2
K3_Homeschool_FoundationsIn today's episode, we'll unravel the unsettling origins of the American public education system, as detailed in Chapter 2 of "The Underground History of American Education" by John Taylor Gatto. Join me as we explore the connections, shifts in values, and the use of compulsion that have shaped our educational landscape. Episode Highlights: The Prussian Connection: Horace Mann's admiration for the Prussian model led to the adoption of state-controlled education in the U.S., aimed at creating obedient citizens rather than nurturing individualism and critical thinking. Influential figures like Woodrow Wilson openly advocated for a stratified educational system, echoing the Prussian ideals of molding workers and managers. A Disheartening Shift in Values: The Common School Movement shifted focus from family-centered education to a uniform, obedient workforce, stripping parents and communities of educational control. Resistance to this shift was met with outrage, with incidents like school burnings and escapes highlighting the societal discord. The Role of Compulsion: Early public education relied heavily on compulsion, reinforcing the notion of education as a tool for state control rather than individual growth. Despite changes over time, the use of compulsion persists, with legal mandates on attendance undermining parental autonomy. The Geneticist’s Manifesto and Bionomics: Shocking revelations from Gatto's research uncover a disturbing chapter in American education, where scientific control of human behavior and eugenics principles infiltrated educational policy. Instances like the forced sterilization laws in Indiana and its influence on Nazi ideology highlight the dark consequences of such ideologies. As we reflect on the revelations of our educational history, it's evident that significant challenges persist in our public education system. To truly address these issues, we must prioritize individual growth, critical thinking, and parental involvement. Let's advocate for a more inclusive and empowering educational environment that values creativity and independent thought. Thank you for tuning in to Foundations of Learning. Remember, it's through understanding our past that we pave the way for a better future. Join us next time for another enlightening discussion.
