TMI Show Ep 139: “SCOTUS Tackles Birthright Citizenship”
TheTMIshowGet ready for a gripping episode of The TMI Show with hosts Ted Rall and Manila Chan, diving into one of the most pivotal legal battles of 2025! The main focus is the U.S. Supreme Court’s oral arguments on May 15, tackling whether federal courts can issue sweeping temporary stays to block President Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship. This historic case, rooted in the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of citizenship for those born on U.S. soil, pits the Trump administration against 22 Democratic-led states and immigrant rights groups. Federal judges in Washington, Massachusetts, and Maryland issued nationwide injunctions, calling the order “blatantly unconstitutional,” but the administration argues these broad blocks overstep judicial power. With arguments set to explore the scope of universal injunctions, the outcome could reshape how courts check executive actions, impacting millions and redefining citizenship rules. Tune in for a deep dive into this constitutional showdown, its implications for immigration policy, and the balance of judicial authority. Plus: An Israeli airstrike in Northern Gaza killed 50, including 22 children, as Israel escalates its offensive to “capture” the enclave. Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired missiles at Israel, prompting evacuation orders for Yemeni ports amid rising tensions. U.S. drug overdose deaths dropped 27% in 2024 to 80,000, the largest decline on record, driven by naloxone and methadone access. Mass Deportations: Facts vs Fantasies
TheTMIshowOn The TMI Show, co-hosts Ted Rall and Manila Chan investigate what's true and what's not about the second Trump Administration's plans for border policy and the millions of asylum applicant and illegal immigrants who migrated into the United States over the last few years. Trump has appointed former acting Director of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Tom Homan to be his border czar. Homan has promised “shock and awe” on Day One—but the message is confusing. Contrary to what Trump said on the campaign trail, the US military will probably not be involved anytime soon in deportations. That job will fall to ICE, which will focus on people here illegally who are suspected of having committed serious crimes, as well as gang members—which is the same priority currently in effect under Joe Biden. They don't plan to break down doors at anyone's homes. Homan does, however, suggest that raids on workplaces, a tactic Biden discontinued, could return. There is also a mixed messaging on whether families might be separated because some members have legal status and others don't. Meanwhile, immigrant advocates and activists will be availing themselves of remedies in the legal system to slow down expulsions. What tools do they have? How effective are they? Our expert guest is immigration attorney Susan Pai. After attending the University of Southern California, University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Louisville and Nagoya University in Japan, Susan began her career as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the State of Washington. Susan is a nationally recognized speaker and writer. She is a front page featured Huffington Post writer on immigration issues (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/susan-pai/5-million-reasons-for-rec_b_5056302.html) and has submitted Congressional Testimony on humanitarian immigration issues. She has worked with the Senate Judiciary Committee on business immigration and has testified as an expert on immigration compliance. Susan has spoken at national anti-fraud conventions, immigration law conferences and law schools. Join us as we answer the question: what's the truth about mass deportations under another Trump Administration?191 views 2 comments -

TMI Show Ep 38: “Citizenship for All?”
TheTMIshowThe United States is among the 32 countries, mostly in the Americas, that have birthright citizenship. If you are born here, you get a US passport. Conservatives have long complained that the 14th Amendment provides a loophole for so-called "anchor babies,” of whom there are at least 4 million born to illegal immigrants. But those numbers are dropping annually. Jus soli, or the right of the soil, is in the crosshairs of the incoming second Trump Administration, with the president-elect threatening to eliminate it by executive order. Without it, however, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people could be forced back into the shadows, refusing to call the police or the fire department for fear of deportation, and become stateless. In France, there are second and even third-generation stateless people who couldn't go back "home" even if they wanted to. The TMI Show’s Ted Rall debates the issue with guest co-host Robby West, filling in for Manila Chan.181 views 2 comments -
"The brain drain is real" V K Samhith CEO of BornMonkie Full Interview - The TMI Show
TheTMIshowWe’ve been talking about the H1B visa controversy and how it may be affecting tech workers in the US, where the H1B program has prompted a 5% decline in computer science majors. Today we’re flipping the script to consider the issue from the other side: India, which supplies the vast majority of H1B visa workers to the US. Indian tech sector leaders are concerned that the program is poaching some of their best coders and developers, creating a neo-imperialist brain drain from India and other tech centers. “The TMI Show” explores the other side of the H1B visa issue from the other side of the world with co-hosts Ted Rall and Manila Chan and guest V K Samhith, independent game developer and the founder of BornMonkie.84 views
