I love Smallville. I know the show isn't perfect, but I can't put into words how much this version of Clark Kent and Superman means to me. Smallville was a show that helped shape me as a person, during a time when morality and the questions of living in the world were overwhelming to me. One thing I've sadly noticed, especially in recent years, is that WB and DC have a real disrespect for this version of the character. I absolutely adore the DCAU (DC Animated Universe) and, with it being Christmas, I thought it was the perfect time to take a look at Christmas With The Joker. This DCAU Holiday special episode was the first of its kind in the universe, and helped establish different characterizations of Batman, Robin and The Joker. With the Joker escaping on Christmas Eve, Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson have their work cut out for them, especially since Joker has a kidnapped Commissioner Gordon in tow. The DCAU contains so many amazing shows and movies, including Batman The Animated Series, Superman The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock, Batman Beyond and The Zeta Project (yes that one is real even though we all kind of forget about it.) I wanted to take a look back at the Batman Arkham series and what made each entry so special. While there are many positives you can look at in Batman Arkham Asylum, I truly believe that the biggest triumph of this game is it's attention to detail in the atmosphere. From the beginning, you are the sole protector that can stand against the darkness of Joker and his criminal army. With supervillains like Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and even the Riddler tormenting you, you must become Bruce Wayne and protect the inhabitants of Gotham City. Modern video games have some advantages over the classics, but they also suffer from so many problems that did not need to affect them so drastically. One such issue with gaming now is the always-online component and the lack of game preservation. These games are so reliant on the internet and so reliant on connectivity features, that they completely crumple and fade away without these. Meanwhile, games from the earlier console generations can be played with no problems, to this day.
