His arrival is anything but peaceful. Dirty cops from the city’s corrupt C.R.A.S.H. unit are waiting for him. His gang, the Grove Street Families, has lost its power. His brother Sweet is hardened and bitter, his old friends Big Smoke and Ryder seem loyal but only on the surface. CJ tries to reconnect with his brother Sweet and help restore the gang’s influence, but just as the Families begin regaining territory, everything falls apart. Sweet is betrayed by Smoke and Ryder, ambushed and arrested, while CJ is manipulated and exiled from the city by Officer Tenpenny. With no way back and his brother in prison, CJ is forced to operate out in the countryside and beyond. And so begins his odyssey—a journey that takes him far beyond Los Santos into the heartland of San Andreas. He becomes involved with new characters and criminal organizations. In the rural towns, he takes on work for a variety of shady figures, while also building his own connections. He eventually moves into San Fierro, where he helps dismantle a drug syndicate called the Loco Syndicate from the inside. Along the way, he partners with allies like the philosophical hippie Truth, blind but brilliant Woozie, loyal Cesar Vialpando, shady intelligence agent Mike Toreno and many others, as he builds his own criminal empire. These characters expand CJ’s world beyond Grove Street. Through these chapters, CJ transforms. He becomes a strategist, a businessman, a leader. The story takes him further down the rabbit hole of working for the intelligence, stopping arms deliveries to foreign dictators, infiltrating government facilities and stealing classified technology, all the while discovering how the system really works and uncovering the real reasons behind the drug epidemic in Los Santos while he works towards his brother's freedom. The story continues into Las Venturas, where CJ becomes a partner in a major casino operation and carries out a high-stakes heist against the mafia. At this point, CJ has grown far beyond his roots in Los Santos—he’s now a major player across the state, operating and controlling real estate, a garage and a car showroom, a private airfield, having a steak in a casino. Yet, for all the fortune and freedom he gains, the shadow of Los Santos never leaves him. His brother is imprisoned, his neighborhood decays, and the man pulling strings—Officer Tenpenny—is still on the loose. The final act brings CJ back to a crumbling Los Santos where he is operating a recording studio and managing a famous rapper as he awaits the release of his brother from prison. Not long after, Tenpenny’s crimes are exposed and the streets erupt into violence. In the face of riots and bloodshed CJ reclaims his home and the control over his neighborhood and restores order, eventually facing Big Smoke and Tenpenny in a final confrontation in a crumbling crack den and later a chase through the flaming streets and alleyways. Smoke dies surrounded by the empire he built on lies. Tenpenny dies trying to outrun his own sins, crashing from a stolen firetruck. And CJ stands above him, having managed to overcome the system that was designed to destroy him and his family. San Andreas is a story about survival and transformation. It is a story of a system stacked against the weak, and the resilience of those who decide to rise anyway, enduring tragedy, loss, betrayal and exile, suffering through everything the system can throw at them and growing stronger through courage, loyalty and intelligence while uncovering the truth about the inner workings of this system and finally dealing with its mechanisms of control and rising above it.
