The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones is the re-edited, feature-length title for the original 1990s television series, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Created by George Lucas, the series explores the formative years of the iconic character, from childhood to early adulthood, as he travels the world and encounters numerous historical figures. Plot: The series follows Henry "Indy" Jones as a young boy (age 9-10, played by Corey Carrier) on his father's worldwide lecture tour, and as a teenager/young adult (age 16-21, played by Sean Patrick Flanery) caught up in the events of World War I and other global conflicts. Unique Concept: A key aspect of the show is that Indy's adventures bring him into contact with famous historical figures such as T.E. Lawrence, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Sigmund Freud, Charles de Gaulle, and Leo Tolstoy, offering an educational look at early 20th-century history. Production: The show was notable for its cinematic quality, large budget, and extensive on-location filming around the world. The original episodes included "Old Indy" bookend segments featuring George Hall (and briefly Harrison Ford) reminiscing about the past. Re-editing and Release Due to its high costs and low initial viewership, the series was canceled in 1993, but four made-for-television films were produced afterward. In 1996, George Lucas supervised a major re-editing of the entire series: The original hour-long episodes and TV films were restructured into 22 feature-length "chapters" (approximately 90 minutes each). The title was changed to The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones. The "Old Indy" framing devices were largely removed to better arrange the stories in chronological order.
