They were welcomed as "a new element of international understanding and thus of pacification of the whole world". After the Nazis took power in 1933, this proved to be an illusion. The Fox Sound Newsreel is the only foreign newsreel shown in German cinemas. The German branch of the American Fox Movietone News advertises itself with the slogan "The Voice of the World". After 1933, it too bowed to the regime's propaganda demands. The last issue appeared on June 27, 1940.
