God's Nature

From the Song of Moses to the book of Revelation, the scriptures testify to God's nature for above all else he is the God of truth. We worship God because he is true — firm, steadfast, stable. Truth is the reality; from the marvellous miniature design of our DNA to the vast expanses of the universe our God created and controls everything that is real. Jealousy Has Its Consequences Internationally The 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, and the family feud over the land of Israel still continues. This document of the League of Nations gave the British a mandate to govern Palestine. It also gave the Jews a right to return to their ancient homeland, thus fulfilling many prophecies. And yet from this moment their Arab “cousins” jealousy has bought terrible conflict, hardship, and heartache. Yet God will still use the jealousy of those who hate Israel to accomplish his purpose.

Can We Trust God to Really Care? On the journey up to the Feast of Tabernacles, travellers could face many hardships. They may also have been concerned about the safety of those left behind. Yet those who would trust God to really care were heartened by the assurance in the Psalms of ascent. “The Lord will preserve you from all evil…” In our age of doubt and disbelief do we as Christians truly rely on God’s loving care. Do we trust God to really care about our needs? Is he invested in his creation and our well-being?

Why does God care about humanity? The answer to this question is found in part in the book of Genesis. But this is only the beginning of the story. Here God declared, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let him have dominion over the earth." The Psalmist adds to our understanding of God's purpose in that he created human beings with a glory that was a little lower than 'elohim' (God). Jesus in answering the religious leaders of his day, proclaimed that he was a son of God, and yet this should not have astounded them as it did. For Jesus made the same kind of bold declaration as the Psalmist in calling men 'elohim' or sons of God. John, James and Paul all added insights regarding Christ's being the image of the Father and the firstborn son of God. But the Father has a plan to bring many more sons and daughters - made in his image - into his family. Knowing this basic truth these biblical writers offer us wisdom as to how we should live our lives now in preparation for this glorious future. Children of God — Spiritual DNA The religious leaders of Jesus’ day claimed that they were children of God, and heirs of the promises made to Abraham. The irony was that they were also plotting to murder Jesus, something that would have been anathema to Abraham, their forefather. Jesus’ took the opportunity to discuss with them the issue of ‘Who is your Father,’ and point out the reality of who his Father was. Jesus’ observations infuriated them. Throughout scripture we have stories of God setting 'appointed times' for events to occur. Those who walk with God will have their patience and faith tested as the wait for God to act at the appointed time. Are we making decisions in our lives prayerfully waiting on God to convict us as to the best course of action? Are we faithfully waiting as Esther or Mordecai or are we lie Saul, fearful and insecure in our relationship with God. We can do this by focusing on God's nature, his power, wisdom, faithfulness and patience.
