"The Look" is a song by the Swedish pop rock duo Roxette. It was released as a single in 1988 and later included on their second studio album, "Look Sharp!" The song became a massive international hit and is one of Roxette's signature tracks. "The Look" was written by Per Gessle, one half of Roxette, and was originally not intended to be a single. However, an American exchange student brought the album to a radio station in Minnesota, and the station's DJ liked "The Look" so much that he decided to play it on the air. The song's popularity quickly grew, and it was eventually released as a single. The catchy melody and upbeat sound of "The Look" made it an instant success. The song reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States in April 1989 and remained there for one week. It also topped the charts in various other countries and helped Roxette achieve international fame. The success of "The Look" opened the doors for the duo to further international stardom with subsequent hits like "Listen to Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love." Roxette, consisting of Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson, had a successful career in the late 1980s and 1990s and continued to release music until Marie Fredriksson's health issues forced the duo to go on hiatus. Unfortunately, Marie Fredriksson passed away in December 2019. "The Look" remains one of their most iconic and enduring songs.
