Esther
We don't know who wrote this letter, but it more than likely was Mordecai.
Esther 9:29 Then Queen Esther, daughter of Abihail, with Mordecai the Jew, wrote with full authority to confirm this second letter about Purim.
The Book of Esther is the most remarkable book in the Bible in many ways. The name of God is not used in this book. There is not a pronoun or reference used in this entire book of ten chapters that refers to God. The name of the heathen king is used 192 times. Prayer is not mentioned in this book. That makes sense since God is not mentioned here. In this book, we are shown how a pagan, heathen court of a world ruler runs his kingdom and how God can use it for His plan and purpose.
This is one of the two books in Holy Scripture named after a woman. Ruth is the other. Both of these books are romance books. Ruth is a book about redemption as a romance and Esther is about the romance of providence. God directs this material universe with His providence. There is not anything that happens that is not directed or allowed by God.
After the Israelites were declared free by Cyrus after 70 years of captivity, only 60,000 or so out of several million returned to Jerusalem. This is recorded in the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, and Zechariah. Those books tell us a lot about the faithful Israelites who did return to their land as commanded by God. But what about the millions of Israelites who stayed behind? What about them? The Book of Esther tells us a little about them. This little Book of Esther tells us the historic tale of how the entire race of the Jewish people were saved by the obedience of a young girl and her uncle. The Jewish people were saved by the providence of God.
Let's define providence. First of all, we have a people that are against God's will in that they are not obeying God and they are staying in Babylon where the big money and comfort is. When they were first taken captive, they could not sing praises or experience joy because they were not in the land God had given them.
Psalm 137:1-6
Now, however, they were fat and happy and real comfortable. They have forgotten. But what about God? Has He forgotten them? Some Christians today have the convoluted idea that God thinks the Jews were bad because they didn't follow God's Law and the Christians are all real good folks who can do whatever they like and God will just snicker. If that is your opinion, then you are terribly wrong. God has not changed. God still loved those people who disobeyed Him. This book is a record of how He used His providence to sustain them. Before we can fully understand God's providence, we must understand a couple of other things. First of all, God is our Creator. There is not another explanation of our beginnings and our present existence than to say that God created us. I firmly believe that God spoke the present universe into existence approximately 6,000 years ago, He destroyed the world that then was about 4,000 years ago, and that He literally had to slaughter His own Son as a penalty for our sins about 2,000 years ago. Those are the facts. There has NOT been ONE SHRED of true scientific evidence that disputes or calls to doubt any of those facts. God is our Creator and Redeemer.
Another word to consider is preservation. It is by God's Word that all things are held together.
Heb. 1:3
Col. 1:17
It is an absolutely amazing thing that we can predict the positions of the moon, planets, and stars because God made their orbits so precise. This entire universe runs like clockwork. Why? Because of the preservation of God. The word providence means to provide. This is the word so exemplified in the Book of Esther. Remember what Abraham said on top of Mount Moriah when he was on his way with his son Isaac to obey God's orders. Isaac (unknowing that he was the sacrifice) asked where is the sacrifice? Abraham's answer was one of the greatest signs of God's redemptive plan in the Old Testament (Gen. 22:7-8). He said that God would provide the sacrifice. Nineteen hundred years later, God provided that sacrifice. On the mountain ridge called Golgotha, God provided the ultimate sacrifice for man's sins.
Providence means that God will provide and He is in control. Why did the baby Moses cry and touch the heart of Pharaoh's daughter when he was floating down the Nile? God pinched his little butt and made it bring tears to this powerful woman. Why did Jonathan, the son of king Saul who hated David and wanted him dead, befriend David? Because God is in ultimate control of this material universe and His will will be done. Trust Him that these things are for the best and for His glory.
Things may seem sad and bleak today. Work and home may be difficult right now. We may even have a loved one (or ourselves) sick or dying. But the fact of the matter is that these things are taking place for a reason and God is in ultimate control. The hand of God is in the glove of human events.

Esther 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 – Then Haman became terrified before the king and queen. Why? 2023
RVTAEst 7:5 Then King Ahasuerus asked Queen Esther, "Who is he, and where is he, who would presume to do thus?" Est 7:6 And Esther said, "A foe and an enemy, is this wicked Haman!" Then Haman became terrified before the king and queen. Est 7:7 And the king arose in his anger from drinking wine and went into the palace garden; but Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm had been determined against him by the king. Est 7:8 Now when the king returned from the palace garden into the place where they were drinking wine, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, "Will he even assault the queen with me in the house?" As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face. Est 7:9 Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were before the king said, "Behold indeed, the gallows standing at Haman's house fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai who spoke good on behalf of the king!" And the king said, "Hang him on it." Est 7:10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king's anger subsided. Ezra The writings of Ezra start in the first year of Cyrus, king of Persia. The "first year of Cyrus" is a reference to the first year of Cyrus's rule over Babylon, which began when his army conquered the city on Oct. 12, 539 B.C. Ezra wrote during the time of Esther and before the writings of Nehemiah. King Cyrus was born about 600 BC and died at the age of 70. He reigned over the Persian Empire for 30 years. Cyrus is going to tell the Jewish people to return to their homeland if they will rebuild the Temple. The release of Judah coincides precisely with the seventy years of captivity for Judah spoken of in Jeremiah's prophecy Jer 25:11-12; 29:10). A number of inscriptions from the reign of Cyrus, most notably the famous Cyrus Cylinder, indicate that Cyrus was a clever politician who knew how to win the loyalty of conquered subjects. It shows that Elohim sovereignty used Cyrus to reestablish His people (Prov. 21:1). The ascension of Cyrus to power is a fulfillment of prophecy, delivered more than 200 years earlier, which called him Elohim's "anointed" Isa 44:28-45:4). Josephus states that the partiality he showed toward the Jewish people arose from the prophecies being shown to him, probably by Daniel.16 views -
Esther 3, 4 & 5 – This is an extremely brave thing Esther is going to do; her life on the line. 2023
RVTAEst 4:15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, Est 4:16 "Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish." Est 4:17 So Mordecai went away and did just as Esther had commanded him. Esther wanted the people to fast for her for three days and nights. She wanted them to beseech God, but she still doesn't pray or ask for prayer. All of these people are outside the will of God. It is very difficult to pray to God when you are out of His will. Jonah had the same problem. He was outside of God's will and couldn't pray to Him for assistance. All he could do was ask to be thrown overboard. Jonah 1:1-12). There are some things Esther is doing right. She is telling Mordecai and his friends to beseech God also, along with her maidens. When we are in trouble and need God's help, we all need to pray for each other and for strength for those in need. This is an extremely brave thing Esther is going to do. She is going to put her life on the line for her people. Her response was "If I perish, I perish." What a brave lady she is.15 views -
Esther 1 & 2 - Why did she win? Why was Hadassah (Esther) made queen instead of Vashti? 2023
RVTAThis book begins with legal and matrimonial difficulties. It is a personal matter, but it had international consequences. Because it was part of God's plan to save His people. It was no accident. Est 2:16 So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus to his royal palace in the tenth month which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. Est 2:17 And the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found favor and kindness with him more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. When the king saw Esther, the contest was over. Esther was made queen. Why did she win? Because it was part of God's plan to save His people. It was no accident.15 views
