Defending PSA from anti-PSA attacks

John the Baptist pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. What does this mean? How is it accomplished? WHY IS IT CALLED GOOD FRIDAY when Jesus suffered so terribly?

PSA means Penal Substitutionary Atonement and teaches that God poured out His wrath for OUR sin on Jesus Christ. He is the substitute that took OUR punishment (penalty for sin) so that we can get His righteousness. I'm going to prove this is true from scripture. The cup that Jesus took was the cup of God's wrath.

This will specifically be a study of Romans 3.25 and Vincent's commentary on it. I will be joined by Rock.

In John 1.29, John the Baptist identifies Jesus as the "Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world". This appears to clearly teach Penal Substitutionary Atonement since the audience would have immediately thought of the lamb of Passover, but the phrase "takes away the sin of the world" would sound like the day of Atonement. How does Jesus "take away the sin of the world"? He died in our place the death we deserved. Let's look at all these concepts.

God says that He will by NO means clear the guilty. That means He will not "forgive" without payment being made. He doesn't just shrug His shoulders and ignore the sin problem as though He is an incompetent or corrupt Judge. No, He is a perfectly Holy Judge and will pass sentence and require payment according to His Law. Those who oppose PSA (Penal Substitutionary Atonement) hate the holiness and righteousness of the Just Judge of the universe and like Muslims and New Agers want God to just forgive without penalty or punishment. But why did Jesus then need to die? Why did it please the LORD (Yahweh) to bruise Him?? No, Jesus took MY punishment. And yours. Have you accepted His gift?
