Finally, the second installment is here. Like the first installment, this installment will have a touch of blues, du-wap, with a little bit more of rock this time. Although it was fun compiling these songs together, it was hard choosing which song to add or keep out. I also found it fascinating how a few of these songs I thought were from original bands or artists from the 70s, were actually recorded in the 60s. For example, I always thought the group UFO wrote and sung “Alone Again Or”, but it was actually recorded by the 60s group Love. Or the cool pop rock track, “Everlasting Love” by Love Affair was turned into a full blown 70s disco hit by singer Carl Carlton (This song will be added to Vol.03). Before you young yens start complaining and laughing about this, ‘old-no one listens to this crap’ attitude; remember this… There will be a day coming when someone younger than you is going to tell you the same thing your thinking now and your natural reaction (Like many of us) would probably be, “You don’t get it kid, this is the best rock you’ll ever hear or need. Not that crap you’re listen to”. Then it will hit you like a ton of bricks how you used to say the same to your elders. The lesson here is simple… It doesn’t matter the style or the generation; music is awesome. It makes you happy, sad, angry, whatever the circumstance, music has you covered and it will always be the best. What’s your favorite style and genre? Before we can appreciated any type of rock music, we need to understand when this genre started. Some will say it started with blues music because it is the root of rock & roll. For me, it started when it exploded on the tv screen with Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and even Jerry Lee Lewis. As a kid, I grew up listening to 70s rock, but my parents would play more of the 50s and 60s genre like the Beach Boys or Dion. This mix will have a touch of blues (if any), du-wap and rock. The best transitioning song could be the electrifying guitar sound of the Beetles ‘Revolution’ because of the slight use of du-wap within the song.
