Happy Days is a classic American sitcom that originally aired on ABC from January 15, 1974, to July 19, 1984, with a total of 255 episodes across 11 seasons. Created by Garry Marshall, the show was a nostalgic look at life in the American Midwest during the 1950s and early 1960s, set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The series initially centered on the experiences of the wholesome, middle-class Cunningham family: Richie Cunningham (played by Ron Howard): The good-natured, naive teenage protagonist whose adolescent misadventures with his friends formed the early storylines. Ron Howard later left the show to pursue a successful directing career. Howard Cunningham (Tom Bosley) and Marion Cunningham (Marion Ross): Richie's parents, the caring and grounding figures of the family. Joanie Cunningham (Erin Moran): Richie's younger sister. Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler): Initially a minor supporting character, the charismatic, motorcycle-riding high school dropout quickly became the show's focal point and a cultural icon. Known for his leather jacket, signature "aayyy" catchphrase, and the ability to make a jukebox work with a pound of his fist, "The Fonz" became an unlikely role model and a major reason for the show's success. The main characters frequently gathered at a local malt shop called Arnold's Drive-in. The show is often credited with sparking a wave of 1950s nostalgia in the 1970s, capitalizing on the success of the film American Graffiti (which also starred Ron Howard). Fonzie's leather jacket is even on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History.
