Short-lived but memorable American horror television series Werewolf. It was one of the original shows on the Fox network during its inaugural season of 1987-1988 and gained a cult following due to its special effects by makeup artist Rick Baker.
The TV Series Werewolf (1987–1988)
The series follows the story of Eric Cord (played by John J. York), a college student whose life changes when his best friend, who is a werewolf, asks Eric to kill him with a silver bullet. Eric is bitten during the encounter and is forced to shoot his friend.
Now cursed with lycanthropy and a fugitive from the law for his friend's murder, Eric must travel the country on a quest to find and kill the source of his bloodline, an ancient werewolf named Janos Skorzeny (played by Chuck Connors in his final TV role). Eric believes that by killing the originator, he can break the curse.
The show had a format similar to The Fugitive or The Incredible Hulk TV series, with Eric wandering from town to town, encountering various characters and challenges while being pursued by a persistent bounty hunter, "Alamo" Joe Rogan (Lance LeGault)
Special Effects: The werewolf transformations and makeup effects were a highlight, designed by the Oscar-winning Rick Baker, known for his work on An American Werewolf in London.
Plot Twist: Eric eventually discovers that Skorzeny is not the true originator of the bloodline, but rather a more powerful and ancient werewolf named Nicholas Remy (Brian Thompson).
Cancellation: The series aired a two-hour pilot and 28 half-hour episodes before being canceled by Fox in 1988, partly due to the high production costs of the special effects.

1987 Werewolf FOX Network TV Series Episode #20 EYE OF THE STORM
MemoryCryptofCastleHillsIn 1987 I was 23 years old and I was super excited that there was a TV Series based on a WEREWOLF. The 1987 werewolf TV series was simply titled Werewolf, and it was one of the original shows on the brand-new Fox network. The series ran for a single season from July 1987 to May 1988, airing 29 episodes. Premise: The show followed the cursed college student Eric Cord (played by John J. York) who, after being bitten by his werewolf roommate, must find and kill the originator of his "bloodline" to break the curse. Format: The structure was similar to The Incredible Hulk or The Fugitive, with Eric Cord traveling from place to place, helping people in different towns, all while being pursued by a persistent bounty hunter named "Alamo" Joe Rogan (Lance LeGault). Main Antagonist: The initial target was Janos Skorzeny, the powerful and malevolent werewolf who infected Eric's friend, played by Chuck Connors in his final television role. Special Effects: The series was noted for its impressive practical special effects and werewolf make-up designed by the Oscar-winning artist Rick Baker. Cancellation: Despite critical acclaim for its special effects and engaging storyline, the show was canceled due to the high production costs associated with the special effects and music licensing, not poor ratings.
