One of my favorite games, Zelda 1 has a completely open world if you know the tricks, dungeons that can be completed in almost any order, the start of many iconic items and tropes, and it's a secret to everybody.

One of the more odd Zelda games, this one started as a pet project of Kazuaki Morita and some of the designers messing with a Gameboy kit in their free time, until it was brought in as an official project, it's a cute little game, and eventually plan to play the remake
