In honour of the abused boy
Meaningful ScenesI dedicate this clip to abused boys across the world. Boys who are victims of abuse often carry their suffering in total silence. May the future hold more compassion for them. This otherworldly clip is from the 1983 Japanese-British movie "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence". The context: David Bowie's character, Jack Celliers, is guilt ridden for life because he in childhood had the chance to intercede and spare his sensitive younger brother from a cruel hazing ritual at their school. But he didn't, out of shame, and as a result, the little brother, who was musically gifted and already had begun composing his own songs at a young age, was silenced for life; he became so traumatized that he never made music, or lifted his voice in song, again. The symbolism goes straight to the heart. The movie's main theme is the various forms of abuse commonly suffered by men and boys across the cultures of the world. It is not an easy watch, but it is worth it.23 views -
Pilate's dream
Meaningful ScenesIn this scene from Vladimir Bortko's 2005 series "The Master and Margarita", based upon Mikhail Bulgakov's novel, Pilate has a dream about the prisoner Yeshua Ha-Nozri, an errant philosopher whom he executed the same morning. Bulgakov's novel deals with the spiritual torment of bureaucrats as a result of their primary vice. The book was written at the height of Stalin's purges in the mid-thirties when multitudes of bureaucrats had a share in this type of trauma. Indiana Jones' leap of faith
Meaningful ScenesThis clip from "Indiana Jones III: The last crusade" depicts a situation many people may recognize from their own lives. The episode is symbolically authentic in the way it demonstrates how a spiritually significant choice unavoidably has to be made without guarantees. Why? Because otherwise it would not have the quality that (in real life) creates the bridge enabling one to cross into the true realm of the holy. You cannot go there at all if you have not attained a measure of holiness yourself. What does holiness mean in this context? It means making a choice out of disinterested love, and from faith in the reality of good (of God). The scene demonstrates this by showing how Indy does not have the courage to step into the abyss until the moment when he becomes more focused upon his seriously wounded father's pain than the danger to his own life. He knows that his father's only hope of healing is beyond that abyss. Then, his compassion carries him across. The clip is shown here only for entertainment and educational purposes. A measure of humanity
Meaningful ScenesI find this scene oddly therapeutic. The beautiful contrast featured evokes a memory of something important. The clip is from the 1971 movie "Secrets" with Robert Powell. It is shared here only for educational and entertainment purposes. Copyright belongs to the owner.26 views
