In 1935, a group of young New York City actors known as the Dead End Kids made an appearance in Sidney Kingsley's Broadway production of Dead End. Producer Samuel Goldwyn took them all to Hollywood in 1937 and made a movie out of the play. They were so successful that, up until 1958, they kept making films under several names, such as the Bowery Boys, the East Side Kids, and the Little Tough Guys.
