Chapter Nine is where God tells Moses to tell Pharaoh that if he doesn't let the Israelites go, God will send plagues on Pharaoh, his officials, and his people. God has refrained from sending plagues until now so that Pharaoh could witness God's power. Chapter Ten sees Moses warning Pharaoh of the locust plague, Pharaoh refuses to let the Israelites go. Chapter Seven sees Moses and Aaron perform miracles to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites go, but Pharaoh's heart remains hardened. The plagues were literal and had a definite strategy and purpose but Pharaoh was not willing to relent and it would cost him. God uses the plagues to glorify himself and to give Pharaoh a chance to repent and Chapter Eight describes a set of plagues that gave Pharaoh another opportunity to repent and let the Israelites go. Exodus Chapter Five teaches several important lessons that are crucial to Christians today including God's demand for freedom and the importance of obeying God. Further, Obeying God's word and doing God's will can lead to blessings, but the path to those blessings may include successes and failures, emotional elation and depression. Confronting evil in our lives is a must but there are moments in life where things get worse before they get better but when they do, we must double down on our relationship with God. Chapter Six features God's promise to free the Israelites from Egypt and establish a covenant with them. God promises the Israelites freedom when he appears to Moses and tells him that he will deliver the Israelites from Egypt and give them the land of Canaan and while there is doubt, God offers reassurance. In Genesis 49–50, we see the close of the patriarchal era as Jacob gathers his sons to speak prophetic blessings and insights over the future tribes of Israel. Each son receives words that reflect character, destiny, and God’s sovereign plan—some rebukes, some promises, and all pointing to the unfolding story of God’s people. Jacob’s words especially highlight Judah’s leadership role, Joseph’s fruitfulness, and the tribal destinies that shape Israel’s future.
