Sure. >> And was wondering if you could respond to Republicans saying well hey even the just the presence of military >> uh in these cities like using D.C. as an example has deterred crime street crime. What’s your uh response to that?” GALLEGOS: “Well look I if the president wants to focus on street crime I’m with him. Let’s hire more police officers. I’m He wants to get a program together uh that the federal government will fund for these high uh crime cities for them to hire more police officers. Uh if you want to help reform their laws, bring more DEA, FBI, and any other kind of police uh enforcement, I’m 100% behind that. Um but I do think it’s a constitutional issue when you use US military force as a police force. But if he wants to tackle uh crime, I’m 100% uh behind any support that is done legally.” BALLASY: “And what do you think about having, you know, all this um the violent protests when it comes to ICE, for example, the anti-ICE? Because if they did increase federal presence in more cities, there’s probably there could be more of this anti” GALLEGO: “Well, look, number one, you like, you know, everyone should avoid violent protests, period. You can protest and you should protest in an honorable way that is you know respective of free speech but also of safety of the of you know the officers involved. Um there is danger because there are people that will always use any type of federal present as a way to escalate this that this will escalate. So I think if we want to actually talk tackle crime in some of these cities using local police forces, hiring more police officers faster as fast as possible and as numerous as possible to bring down crime I think is a legitimate federal uh position that I agree with and I think the president would agree with too.” BALLASY: “Last one for you. Uh do what do you think of the rhetoric you’re hearing from progressives in the party in your party saying you know abolish ICE get rid of ICE and not denouncing a lot of this activity. Do you think it needs to be toned down?” GALLEGO: “No country exists without some type of deportation force. So it’s it’s absolutely ridiculous. I think it’s there’s some legitimate arguments where we could talk about how, you know, we should maybe uh rein it in uh whether who they should be targeting for deportation, what the process is, what the uh judicial process, everything else like that. But this idea that we’re going to apologize is is BS. It’s always been BS. It’s just a a thing that comes back every couple years, but it’s not legitimately realistic, but how how the world works.”
