Pacific414 Pop Talk Watch Party with Commentary Only featuring Back to the Future Part II & III
Pacific414Welcome one and all to Pacific414 Pop talk for Wednesday November 12th 2025, as we go Back to the Future once again for the Back to the Future 40th anniversary celebration by watching Back to the Future part II (1989) and Back to the Future part III (1990) which is also celebrating its 35th anniversary. During today's show, we invite you to join us over on Kosmi by clicking on the pinned link provided on the top of the chat to sit back, relax and join the conversation as we watch and discuss both of these films. Back to the Future Part II is a 1989 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay by Bob Gale; both wrote the story. It is a sequel to the 1985 film Back to the Future and the second installment in the Back to the Future franchise. The film stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas F. Wilson, with Elisabeth Shue (replacing Claudia Wells) and Jeffrey Weissman (replacing Crispin Glover) in supporting roles. The film follows Marty McFly (Fox) and his friend Doctor Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd) as they travel from 1985 to 2015 to prevent the former's son from tarnishing their family's future. When their arch-nemesis Biff Tannen (Wilson) steals the DeLorean time machine and uses it to alter history for his benefit, the duo must return to 1955 to set things right. The film was produced on a $40 million budget and was filmed back-to-back with its sequel Part III. Filming began in February 1989, after two years were spent building the sets and writing the scripts. Back to the Future Part II was also a ground-breaking project for visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). In addition to digital compositing, ILM used the VistaGlide motion control camera system, which allowed an actor to portray multiple characters simultaneously on-screen without sacrificing camera movement. Back to the Future Part III is a 1990 American science fiction Western film and the third installment of the Back to the Future trilogy. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis, and stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Mary Steenburgen, Thomas F. Wilson, and Lea Thompson. The film continues immediately after Back to the Future Part II (1989); while stranded in 1955 during his time travel adventures, Marty McFly (Fox) discovers that his friend Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd) is trapped in 1885 and was killed by Biff's great-grandfather Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen (Wilson). Marty travels to 1885 with the intent of rescuing Doc and then return to 1985, but matters are complicated when Doc falls in love with Clara Clayton (Steenburgen). Back to the Future Part III was filmed in California and Arizona, and was produced on a $40 million budget back-to-back with Part II. Part III was released in the United States on May 25, 1990, six months after the previous installment, and grossed $245 million worldwide during its initial run, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film of 1990.[3] The film received a positive response from critics, who noted it as an improvement over Part II. #backtothefuture #backtothefuture2 #backtothefuture3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976: Allowance is made for "Fair Use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Pacific414 Pop Talk Watch Party with Commentary Only: Flags of our Fathers & Letters from Iwo Jima
Pacific414Welcome one and all to a Veteran's Day special watch party of the Clint Eastwood directed companion films, Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. During today's show, we invite you to join us over on Kosmi by clicking on the pinned link provided on the top of the chat to sit back, relax and join the conversation as we watch and discuss both of these films. Flags of Our Fathers and Letter from Iwo Jima tell both the American and Japanese side of the famous battle that waged on the volcanic island from February 19, 195 to March 16, 1945. The Battle of Iwo Jima was a major battle in which the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and United States Navy (USN) landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) during World War II. The American invasion, designated Operation Detachment, had the goal of capturing the island with its two airfields: South Field and Central Field. The Japanese Army positions on the island were heavily fortified, with a dense network of bunkers, hidden artillery positions, and 18 km (11 mi) of tunnels. American ground forces were supported by extensive naval artillery, and enjoyed complete air supremacy provided by USN and Marine Corps aviators throughout. The five-week battle saw some of the fiercest and bloodiest fighting of the Pacific War. Unique among Pacific War battles involving amphibious island landings, total American casualties exceeded those of the Japanese, with a ratio of three American casualties for every two Japanese Of the 21,000 Japanese soldiers on Iwo Jima at the beginning of the battle, only 216 were taken prisoner, some only captured because they had been knocked unconscious or otherwise disabled. It has been estimated that as many as 3,000 continued to resist within various cave systems on the island after most major fighting ended, until they eventually succumbed to their injuries or surrendered weeks later. The invasion of Iwo Jima was controversial, with retired Chief of Naval Operations William V. Pratt stating that the island was useless to the Army as a staging base and useless to the Navy as a fleet base. The Japanese continued to maintain early-warning radar capabilities on the island of Rota, which was never invaded by American forces. Experiences with previous Pacific island battles suggested that the island would be well-defended and that seizing it would result in significant casualties. Lessons learned on Iwo Jima served as guidelines for American forces in the Battle of Okinawa two months later and the planned invasion of the Japanese homeland. Joe Rosenthal's Associated Press photograph of the raising of the U.S. flag at the summit of the 169 m (554 ft) Mount Suribachi by six Marines became a famous image of the battle and the American war in the Pacific. Flags of Our Fathers is a 2006 American war drama film directed, co-produced, and scored by Clint Eastwood and written by William Broyles Jr. and Paul Haggis. It is based on the 2000 book of the same name written by James Bradley and Ron Powers about the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives. Taken from the American viewpoint of the Battle of Iwo Jima. The film was released on October 20, 2006. Although it was a box office bomb, only grossing $65.9 million against a $90 million budget, the film received favorable reviews from critics. Letters from Iwo Jima (硫黄島からの手紙, Iōjima Kara no Tegami) is a 2006 Japanese-language American war film directed and co-produced by Clint Eastwood, starring Ken Watanabe and Kazunari Ninomiya. The film portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers and is a companion piece to Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers, which depicts the same battle from the American viewpoint; the two films were shot back to back. Letters from Iwo Jima is almost entirely in Japanese with a few English sequences, despite being co-produced by American companies DreamWorks Pictures, Malpaso Productions and Amblin Entertainment. The film was released in Japan on December 9, 2006, and received a limited release in the United States on December 20, 2006. Upon release, the film received critical acclaim and although it only grossed slightly better at the box office than its companion, it was much more successful compared to its budget. Pacific414 Pop Talk Double Feature Watch Party of Dracula (1931) Mars Attacks! (1996)
Pacific414Welcome one and all to Pacific414 Pop Talk for Sunday October 26, 2025 and the continuation of the October watch parties! During today's show, we invite you to join us over on Kosmi by clicking on the pinned link provided on the top of the chat as we invite you to sit back, relax and join the conversation as we watch and discuss the classic 1931 Universal Pictures monster film, Dracula and then we'll take a short intermission before we watch the 1996 Tim Burton sci-fi spoof, Mars Attacks! Dracula is a 1931 American pre-Code vampire film directed and co-produced by Tod Browning from a screenplay written by Garrett Fort and starring Bela Lugosi in the title role. It is based on the stage play Dracula by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston, which in turn is adapted from the 1897 novel Dracula by Bram Stoker.[3] Lugosi portrays Count Dracula, a vampire who emigrates from Transylvania to England and preys upon the blood of living victims, including a young man's fiancée. Produced and distributed by Universal Pictures, Dracula is the first sound film adaptation of the Stoker novel.[4] Several actors were considered to portray the title character, but Lugosi, who had previously played the role on Broadway, eventually got the part. The film was partially shot on sets at Universal Studios Lot in California, which were reused at night for the filming of a concurrently produced Spanish-language adaptation of the same name, also produced by Universal. Dracula was a commercial and critical success upon release, and led to several sequels and spin-offs. It has had a notable influence on popular culture, and Lugosi's portrayal of Dracula established the character as a cultural icon, as well as the archetypal vampire in later works of fiction. In 2000, the film was selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". #dracula1931 #marsattacks #universalmonsters PACIFIC414 Social Links; Link Tree https://linktr.ee/pacific414 Become a 414 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAF5... Pacific414 Pop Talk Double Feature Watch Party of They Live & Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Pacific414Welcome one and all to Pacific414 Pop Talk for Sunday October 22, 2025 and the continuation of the October watch parties! During today's show, we invite you to join us over on Kosmi by clicking on the pinned link provided on the top of the chat as we invite you to sit back, relax and join the conversation as we watch and discuss the 1988 John Carpenter film, They Live starring WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy :"Roddy" Piper and the 1978 version of, Invasion of the Body Snatchers starring Donald Sutherland. Please be aware that the movies will not be available if you click the link after these movies have ended. What are these movie about? Let's first start with John Carpenter's 1988 cult classic. They Live. They Live is a 1988 American science fiction film written and directed by John Carpenter, based on the 1963 short story "Eight O'Clock in the Morning" by Ray Nelson. Starring Roddy Piper, Keith David, and Meg Foster, the film follows a drifter[b] who discovers through special sunglasses that the ruling class are aliens concealing their appearance and manipulating people to consume, breed, and conform to the status quo via subliminal messages in mass media. Having acquired the film rights to the Nelson-penned short story prior to the production of They Live, Carpenter used the story as the basis for the screenplay's structure, which he wrote under the pseudonym "Frank Armitage". Carpenter has stated that the themes of They Live stemmed from his dissatisfaction with the economic policies of then-U.S. President Ronald Reagan, as well as what Carpenter saw as increasing commercialization in both popular culture and politics.[2] They Live was a minor success upon release, debuting at number 1 at the North American box office. It initially received negative reviews from critics, who lambasted its social commentary, writing, and acting; however, it later gained a cult following and experienced a significantly more favorable critical reception. It is now regarded by many as one of Carpenter's best films. The film has also entered the pop culture lexicon, notably having a lasting effect on street art (particularly that of Shepard Fairey. Next up, we have the 1978 version of, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a 1978 American science fiction psychological horror film directed by Philip Kaufman, written by W. D. Richter, and starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy. It is based on the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. The novel was previously adapted into the 1956 film of the same name. The plot involves a San Francisco health inspector and his colleague who over the course of a few days discover that humans are being replaced by alien duplicates; each is a perfect biological clone of the person replaced, but devoid of empathy and humanity. Released in the United States by United Artists on December 22, 1978, Invasion of the Body Snatchers grossed nearly $25 million (equivalent to $121 million in 2024) at the American box office. It initially received varied reviews from critics, though its critical reception has significantly improved in subsequent years, receiving a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and also being hailed as one of the greatest remakes ever, as well as one of the best science fiction horror films of all time. #theylive #invasionofthebodysnatchers PACIFIC414 Social Links; Link Tree https://linktr.ee/pacific414 Become a 414 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAF5... After this movie's success, Lon Chaney Jr. would reprise his role as "The Wolf Man" in four sequels, beginning with Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man in 1943.
