Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya (@mrghanababy on IG/@wode_maya on X) has just visited Burkina Faso, a West African country undergoing a rapid transformation. Among the most impressive changes he witnessed were large-scale road construction and other new infrastructure projects. President Ibrahim Traoré has set a goal to build between 3,000 and 5,000 kilometres of road annually. This initiative is part of his broader strategy to enhance the country’s internal connections, boost economic development and improve the material conditions of his people. Since coming to power, Traoré has put significant emphasis on food sovereignty, industrialisation and infrastructure. These are goals that align with the national fight for greater self-determination and true independence from the West. African Stream has covered the purchase of new road construction equipment coming into Burkina Faso. Now we can look forward to seeing the results of collective work towards national determination by and for the people. With the country’s new Faso Mebo programme, young people will work to develop road infrastructure through a road brigade. Others will work towards city beautification and the creation of more green spaces.
